I did a little pre-riding for day two of the Arkansas Bootlegger yesterday. The weather was perfect. I sat on my couch watching Sons of Anarchy from 6 am until the sun started to light the sky, almost fully dressed. I left about 6:38 am on the African Twin.

Finally, no dust and a sticky road. I stopped to admire the Osage Creek before heading to the cave by Hwy 103. I stopped for a bit.
    [IMG][IMG]
Here is a shot of the road in front of the cave. [IMG]
Here are a couple shots from the 170 mile day, just to get you foaming at the mouth!

I added a special stop for all of you....Chimney Rock
    [IMG][IMG]
I stopped in Jasper at the Blue Mountain Bakery and Cafe then boogied home the scenic route, of course!

The forecast is looking great, so in the words of Wilderness Rider," get off your a-- and burn some gas. See you in less than two weeks.

Scotty: bootlegger newbie here (not to mention an advrider.com newbie also...). I have a couple of questions.
    • What does "Lunch on the trail" mean?
      • Are we stopping at some burg and eating?
      • Should we pack granola bars or something to snack on at a break?
    • What kind of speeds do we generally go?
      • I am trying to figure out how to gear my bike (2014 KTM 500exc).
      • Generally it is geared for gnarly single track with 13/52 however I can easily go 14/52 or 15/52 with same chain.

    Looking forward to the ride!

For this ride lunch will be at restaurants. Oark for day one. Any-place Jasper day two. Don't know about day three yet but we will stop somewhere! I would still pack some snacks as well. As for speeds, you go your own speed, always. Gearing is preferential. I might choose 14/52 for this ride. Could go up, but not down.

Okay, I have looked at this long enough, I'm in and paid up. Coming in on Thursday from Fort Worth. I have space on the trailer for another bike or two. Anybody in my area want a lift?

Thanks for the info. I am going to start with 14/52 and see how that works.

In and paid. Plan is to arrive in time for some of that Thursday evening Jambalaya! Do we need to bring fuel or is there a place close to the campgrounds to get gas so we're ready for the next days ride? Thanks

For all you folks that will be joining us for the early bird dinner Thursday evening, my wife ( Lee) and I will be cooking jambalaya for everybody. We will start cooking at 4:30 and plan on it being ready at 6:30. Volunteers to help stir the pot are always appreciated. ;-)
I am looking forward to seeing and riding with my old friends as well as meeting and riding with new ones.

Thanks Scotty, it is our pleasure.
I forgot to mention that Lee is baking, Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, and Peanut Butter cookies for dessert. ;-)

Looks like some great rides Scotty has laid out as always. Unfortunately, I am going to be out of town and can not make this. Sucks for me...
