Here in Serbia, this VFR is around 2500e.
Does anyone have a California motorcycle license plate they can send me?
I know it would be very illegal, but I could create my own title for the bike.
I have an original California pink slip for a 2000 Honda XR650R that I used to own.
I could photoshop the VIN and plate number from this VFR in Belgium onto the newly created pink slip, mount the California plate onto the bike and ride it back to Hungary.
From 5 years traveling around the world with my California plated bike, I know the police have no idea what an original California title looks like and they almost never would ask to see it anyway. I have a California DL and IDL. I speak only English. I have a US passport. So my story would most certainly be convincing. I know no one would question it and they would have absolutely no way of checking it. And best of all, I won't be getting any speed camera violations and I wouldn't have to pay any road tax fees.
So if anyone has a plate they can get me to Belgium in the next week or so, I think my problem can be solved and this RR can have a proper start.
How could I ever keep the front tire on the ground with all that weight on the back. Looks fun.
That is the most generous offer I have ever heard. I could almost cry.
Imagine the FlyingDutchman177 riding around on a Dutch plated bike.
I will send you a PM.
I may not have a VFR800 yet. But I can't really complain. I have everything I need. The rest will come in time.
As tempting as it sounds, I really advice you to don´t go that way.
If you are involved in an accident, and your bike isn´t properly insured, you will be in deep shit, to say the least. Besides riding a bike, that isn´t correctly insured or tagged with the right plate, you could face some sort of fraud allegation - not worth it, if you ask me.
Europe is a lot different than the US, when it comes to license plates.
Just skip the thought of a blue VFR - it´s not worth losing the love of your life, over some dispute on what colour the bike is. Find the best suitable bike for you 2, pack your backs, and hit the road, and love will take care of the rest.
This is probably the best thing you have said/realized. Cheers
^^^^This just shows that, if it ain't Dutch, it ain't much...!
Very cool Dutchman right there... If you're near Castricum, I will buy you some bier (Pils), should be there in last two wks of July- Proost!
I'm a Dutch woman ;-)
I would have no problem getting the insurance even with a photo shopped pink slip. And there is no way the police would ever know the California title wasn't real.
But this is not going to happen. The VFR in Belgium is no longer for sale. The owner decided to keep the bike as opposed to dealing with trying to sell it without a plate.
So we are back to square one again.
Spend time with Orsi. Riding can wait.
Even more bad news today.
Two months ago, Orsi rented us a beautiful house in a small town called Zalaegerszeg thru Air b&b
And today we were told by the landlord that she can't get her current tenant out. We were supposed to have moved in on the first and the current tenant is making all sorts of threats if they are removed.
So now besides being bikeless, we are also homeless. And trying to find a place to rent for two months over the prime summer season is going to be nearly impossible as everything has a booking now.
We are trying to come up with a new plan today.
On the plus side, we have given up stability in trade for flexibility.
So now, any sort of realistic plan is possible
Where should we go? We have 3 months for adventure.
Back to Thailand? Seems affordable
You may have said it yourself...You have a bike there don't ya?
For every door that closes, new ones are discovered. If Ed's threads prove one thing, its that they don't always need wild, motolocations; more can relate to managing life's more random happenings!
I have a solution brother.....buy two scooters and tour europe. Both of you can have one and you will have blast!!
Thank me later...
Ed, I lost track. Is your GS still in europe?
