Yes, we are going to Patagonia. We 're planning to be there around Christmas.
But we don't know yet our exact route.
We'll go either through Chile or Argentina.
Are you also traveling in South America?

Just read your ride report from the start and it really is fantastic!

Love the photography, your way with words and that you are travelling all that way on a Vespa!

Your observations remind me of the trips I've done with my wife and how we travel. The couchsurfing, camping in random places, the free wifi in gas stations and the people you meet in their wide range of vehicles.

I'm definitely subscribed and best of luck to you both!

Yes but going north - went south last year and did 3 months in Bolivia. My advice for the south would be to take the Carreterra Austral - it's a dirt road but mostly hard packed and good. They are paving it as we speak though it will take several years to finish the lot. Many take the Ruta 40 but there are more interesting roads to take which wind through the mountains. If you get down to Puerto Natales and don't fancy driving back up there is a boat which sails twice weekly called the Navimag. The wind down there was crazy and by the end of March it freezing cold so I just took the boat back to Puerto Montt. I should be coming up the Chilean side to Peru in a few weeks time so maybe see on the road :)

Yes, it's in our plans but we don't know when we'll be there yet.

    Thanks mate!
We are very happy you like the Vespa reports.
It's nice when we see other people enjoy this way of traveling as well!
Best of luck to you too, and safe rides.

    Thanks for the info!
Until now we hadn't thought which route to take to Patagonia.
Probably we're gonna take both Carretera Austral (on our way down) and Routa 40 (on the way up).

We only have a few questions:
    1. As we see on the map there are some parts where it seems impossible to cross without using ferry boats. Does it cost a lot?
    2. Do you remember if the altitude in the Carretera Austral is high (we mean more than 3,000m)? We're a bit tired pushing the Vespa!
    3. And a last one. In your opinion, can we cross through Chile without paying a fortune? We've been terrified by other traveler's stories, about how expensive is Chile. And we're not talking about luxury traveling. We mean the cost for the basics (accommodation, food, petrol etc).

We'll be in Peruvian coast in about 3-4 weeks.
If you are also traveling on Vespa speeds we'll probably meet!

Brilliant photos mate! Love the bike and setup. I have a PX 125 souped up to 175 and it's a blast... can't imagine riding it in the mud though!

    Cheers

    Our latest "livetrip" reports:

    ...

In Bolivia it's very possible, even on the main roads, that you'll have to wait for some hours due to maintenance works. (here at Comarapa village, on our way to Cochabamba)

This place isn't called "Siberia" by accident. Covered with clouds, humid and cold all day long, it was one of the least friendly places we've been in Bolivia. Though, we won't easily forget the wild camp we did up here!

This is the road between Santa Cruz and La Paz: we already did 173 kilometers and we're still waiting for some asphalt!

Cochabamba was a fail. We spent 1.5 hours to get to the center, 2.5 to get out of it and 21€ for a hotel room that didn't deserve more than 10! This is what you get when you don't listen to other travelers' advice. Eight o'clock in the afternoon we checked-in, eight o'clock in the morning checked-out and hit the road to La Paz.

For some people the summer meant sun and sea. For some others, mountains and cold. (La Cumbre pass, 4,496m)

While entering La Paz from El Alto, you have to go down 500 meters of altitude, until you reach the city center! Those who know few things for a Vespa and its power, will understand the headache we had when thinking of the way out...

Copacabana was a big surprise for us! We were expecting a crowded, crazy-touristic and expensive place, but we found one of the friendliest, cheapest and most beautiful places in Bolivia, instead!

72 days in Bolivia and still we're going to miss it...
    Now it's Peru time!
