I just noticed this on the trailer specs
"This handy trailer meets or exceeds all road-ready specifications and DOT requirements and is ready to hit the road at up to 45 MPH"
Now I know you're going to exceed that 45 MPH limit, I would, but by how much? Even at 70 MPH from here to CO is a long ride. In places the speed limit is 80 and you'll be a sitting duck. I've made several cross country trips both in cars and on motorcycles and this seems like a tricky proposition. Not saying it can't be done but I don't think that is the type of trailer set up for cross country hauls especially at the weights you'll be pulling.

The guys airfare would help offset the cost of the rental plus why should he miss all the fun of the ride?

Enterprise truck $700 for 10 days
Uhaul for the trailer $15/ day for 4x7 or $19 for 5x8 enclosed

What would you recommend renting? I guess truck would be the best...we could even load all 3 bikes into the bed, no need for a trailer.

    If you drop your transmission.......

    A rental is cheaper.

A transit van will do it

Definitely check that out. Enterprise would be around 400/ week for the F-150 but three bikes won't fit.
If want to tow or get the F250 you have to use Enterprise truck.

I was thinking a small box truck --- lets not forget security for the bikes at the hotels / gas stops

"always put yourself in a position to win" it is a vacation don't add liabilities to the trip :deal

BTW - did you change the intank fuel filters -- see Buildzall post for what may be in it.

The biggest issue with a box truck most charge mileage+ daily rate. If you could find one with unlimited miles you’d be set.i would do the Enterprise truck and enclosed UHaul.

Towing at max GVWR will quickly kill a vehicle. Brakes are cheap but transmissions get expensive.

....... might wanna check the fine print on the rental agreement, some restrict towing or don't allow it even though the vehicle has a hitch. Some make you rent their trailer. Course it never stopped me from pulling my 12' enclosed trailer across the country with the Hertz truck.
