Agreed, but leg 5+6 of the plans leave PRECIOUS little time for the Alps already!
Ponte di Legno isn't quite "The Dolomites" , so there's a REAL LOT of commuting from that base if one actually wants to ride the Dolos.
Very hectic schedule for one of the best riding places on the planet!

That is SO cool! Just looked at in with Google Earth. One more place added to the list just to ride it from end to end and back again.

Last rode it when the daughter was in primary school on a "see-the-family-holiday". Was looking out for one of the old trains then, the ones I rode as a kid. They were a brutal ride... timber-benches and steel-on-steel of the wheels above made for a hell of a shrieking concerto through that narrow valley. Certainly a piece of unique engineering.

If that's floating your boat :thumb:super
...why not skip Prague and a few other flats + cities and circumvent Vienna (through the Weinviertel, maybe, great food and vino, castles and history etc)
...for a straight shot at the Eastern Alps via the Hells Gorge (Hoellental) and a few other local crackers to the Kalte Kuchl Restaurant. (local Vienna riders hangout, very popular).

...then further south past Zeltweg (Austria-Ring/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Bull_Ring, Formula1 and MotoGP) through the backroads of Steyria to

...Eisenerz, home of the annual Erzberg Red Bull MX-Rodeo,
...cutting south into the core of the Carinthia region, the lakes, the ski-resorts and single-lane heaven of Gerlitzen Mountain or the Soboth, another local rider's road

...small village of Ferlach, home of about 15 family high-priced gunsmiths-businesses
https://isn.page.link/rPrG (pick the tiny road through Eisenkappel and Zell-Pfarre for a story-book way to get there).

And while at Ferlach (just knock on the doors of the private houses for a viewing of their handmade guns and rifles)

Here's a map to string it all together from just south of Vienna. https://isn.page.link/aQBX

DON'T miss the Tscheppa/Tschuppa-Gorge!! (just a few k's south of Ferlach on Rt.91/ Loibl Pass.
It's a fantastic 2-hr scramble up the gorge and into a tiny village (guesthouse and restaurant) for a 15minute bus ride back to the Gorge entrance/ carpark.

Gotta dig out them pics...it's been a while since I was there last :-)

...or the Pyramidenkogel, Europe's highest timber-built observation tower
    https://isn.page.link/t8oe
The list of places to go and see is endless around there....and ALL stitched with excellent roads, sealed and otherwise :-)

glitz, i like the way you think and your website has tons of things to do and places to ride.

it sucks i started late. can't do a lot of catching up since we only get 90-day on our passport there riding in the Schengen countries.

fair enough....but it's easy to change routes and chop out some bits to the benefit of other areas.
Mainly those which have a concentration of perks and bike-roads + scenery etc.
90 days is a looong time when packing "the goods" real tight :-)

It may be a bit late now (or maybe not), but check out Spotwalla - better tracking, more flexibility and archives your trips. And it's free.

    Have a great ride!

I like your plan of spending some time and not just hauling ass for 2 or 3 months. I'm leaving for Eastern Europe next week. Don't have much of a route or plan. Would like to visit Auschwitz, Stalag Luft 111 and Chernobyl. Ride around. Meet some people. Use my home-made sign language to talk politics. Regular biker stuff, I guess. Have fun!

What's your time frame to get to Hungary? I just did stelvio pass today, and am riding east-ish. Probably heading towards Austria and maybe Germany tomorrow.
