I want to build a big brother for the XR460/4, once it is finished, and like the idea of a 600cc 4 banger. Why? Well it has good power, reasonably good on fuel, should be able to get it light enough, carry enough gear, good on a long open road run.

Like a steel frame, so whats around? Aircooled / Water Cooled?

    Suzuki 600 Bandit
    Yamaha 600 Seca
    Honda Hornet
    Kawasaki Z650 (?)

Put some long travel suspension and longer swingarm and off you go!!!

    Well sorta :D

    Any thoughts :ear

    My new favourite thread.:freaky

My dream is to build a rallye style bike but use an old Truimph twin motor. Sort of a fusion of old skool and modern Safari/Dakar race bike/adventure bike.

I'd like the tanks to be custom built polished alloy and build a custom frame to suit. Lots of chrome and polished alloy and brass but with modern suspension and brakes. Styled something like a factory race bike if they had Dakar back in the fifties or sixties.

............now that i agree would be a seriously cool bike! The 650 twin motor is a real pearl. I think it'd look great using a pre-unit motor and seperate gearbox but i guess the smart move to make a good handling bike would be to use a unit construction motor from the 70's. Norton made a good desert racer called the P11 (actually there were a few variants) which used the mighty Atlas 750 motor in a Matchless frame, maybe that would be good inspiration for your beast!

    Cheers

Yeah, I prefer the looks of the pre-unit but the unit would probably be a better choice. But who said the choices had to be wise:evil

Maybe something like a Trumpy version of a BMW HPN.........
