Ive been having some vision problems with my left eye lately, last couple of weeks.

Went to the local Quack, no help at all "go see an optometrist" so i made an appointment with spec savers on line, easy as. (No affiliation)

Dragged`myself along for a checkup and was told that i have a dislodging cornea and need to go and see a specialist NOW.

He wrote me a letter to give to the hospital emergency department which i did and was rushed into see a specialist who did some more examinations and said that they will have to fix it or there is a chance of me loosin`sight in my left eye.

I got rushed into the emergency eye department and saw an eye doctor that did some laser surgery to reattach my retna and all is well. I arrived at the hospital 2.00 pm and was fixed and out the door by 5.00 pm.

Cause of the problem is old age or a big blow to ya noggin i was told.

So moral of the story is if you are having any problems with your eyes go get them checked, total out of pocket expence was $0.00.

How lucky are we to be living in such a great country. Im 61.

Strange, was talking to a 65 year old client recently, same. Completely detached cornea. No explainable reason.
Re attached in a brief surgery, he had some interrupted vision for a while, but 99% back now.
He said when it happened it was like a shutter was half way down across one eye.

Yep, get your eyes checked regularly, hard to ride without them. Glad youre good Boxa.

So does this mean you've changed from being a one-eyed supporter of the wooden spooners to now supporting the ladder leader?

Yep thanx richo, the wonders of modern science/surgery.

All good went for a ride today and no problems, could have driven home from the hospital but Mrs B was there so i let her as it was a but light sensative because of the drops they put in before the laser sergery.

Not a great follower of AFL but I hear that one of our teams are doing well the other not so good.

Just wondering why this was moved to "off topic" as it is quite on topic as if you loose your vision it is hard to go for a ride, hence get your eyes checked if you have any problems.

This is one reason why it pays to crash in soft sand, less chance of a hard knock to the head, well until the wife gets close anyway. :lol3

    Thats a great outcome Boxa.
But sadley this great country you mention does not exist for most outside the great divide Ah sorry I should say much past the great divide.
If your say at Walgett or Narabri you wont get that first refural filled for a week or more. By then the flopped out retina will be healing in a stuypid place . Might as well be down on your chin or at the steps of the local pub.
If your out on a property say sw of Cobar or up near Tib then your fucked.

Mate Im very very glad your on the mend.

I very seldom hear those "chore" voices mate - I may struggle at times to keep up with all the conversations but I still have terrific ignoring skills. :lol3

The reality is worse than that Gateman, you're fucked even if you live in the big smoke.

I had a retinal haemorrhage in my right eye (from riding my limited suspension travel Burgman at higher speeds on corrugated outback roads) 9 years back.

Even though I obtained a referral from my optometrist to a specialist, the specialist didn't detect that I had scarring from the haemorrhage (despite my telling him constantly that my vision was not improving) and it is now permanently damaged.

I subsequently visited another specialist who said they could have prevented the scarring by having injections into the eye, but by that stage the scarring had "healed" and correction was no longer possible.

So now I live with an eye that sees things a different size from the other, and where every word I read tapers downwards from left to right.

    Not happy Jan. :dirtdog

I had some steel in my eye once
    Went to the hospital
    They removed it
Then the nurse thought she saw more in there, so she scrubbed my eye ball to clean it out.

And farked it in about ten seconds flat

    one blurry eye

saw a specialist a couple of months later and he said the damage was basically scratches across my eye ball which could have been caused by a scrubbing motion

This was one of our main reasons to relicate from a remote town to one with a brand new billion dollar hospital about 5 years ago.

Stilll getting some dodgy medical experiences though.

I guess medicos are no different than the rest of us - there are good and bad ones

Yes , our medical system is quite a lucky dip as a few above have alluded to , I have had quite a few "experiences" over the past 10 years with some medical "professionals" that if it were up to me , they'd never receive another cent from their profession . I have also had a couple of experiences with absolutely brilliant Doctors and Nurses too , so as I said , a lucky dip is what we get . I have learned my lesson about attending bulk billing medical centres the hard way , an impact laceration that was not cleaned properly on initial treatment at a medical centre ended up being the catalyst to a six month recovery instead of a six week recovery due to a broken bone nearby and the infection that ensued .

I went to my doctor’s surgery to have the bandages changed after surgery on my ankle.
Couldn’t see my own doctor so I said any will do, so this other doctor and a nurse started removing the bandage when I realised that they didn’t have gloves on, I said hang on hang on stop please, wash your hands and put gloves on please.
They looked at each other and their faces went bright red, they apologised and did it.
