if you stay south and take 80/94 through Hammond, IN, then stay on 80 West and pick up 294 and head west until you hit 90 again. These roads can be just as busy as the main arteries so make sure you time your travel..Chicago traffic pretty much sucks all the time these days..

Are you heading to SD via 90? If so I can recommend some 2 laners that are much more scenic with less traffic..

I am pondering a change in plans to Ouray. I was going to do a CC50 iron butt ride from NY to LA. One other possibility is to leave home on Saturday AM hit the Chicago area saturday night/evening and continue west to Seattle for a SS3K. Since this will be to make time 2 lanes are out for the most part. Sorry MG

I don't think coming thru on a Saturday night would be a big deal. Sunday nights are the nastiest, with all the weekend traffic from Michigan heading back into the city.

If you are worried about it, take I-90 to Cleveland, then I-71 down to Columbus, then I-70 west to Indy, then I-74 back up to meet with I-80 at the Illinois/Iowa border.

just so you know, 90 sucks out there..

if your going as far west as the badlands, 18 to 44 is a good 2 lane route..little traffic and good scenery..didn't see a leo the entire time..

Why stay in Westmont? We're 20 miles further west off of I-88. You'd just have to change a soiled diaper or two.

It's next door to Western Springs. I want to drop by that little burg for about an hour. maybe have breakfast there and then head west.

:lol2 thanks, but no thanks :lol2 I've gone this long avoiding kids. I'll try to keep the record intact. but we can get together for a brew. I'll probably end up in the Best Western in Westmont.

    yea, I've heard 90 sucks.

you mentioned 44 before. I checked it out :thumb and have a couple of different route options depending on the mood. the current one is to get the hell across the plains. right now, I'll wiggle up to 90 via 20 and 52

Are you visiting Western Springs intentionally? Because its basically an urban area, regardless of what it looks like on the map, and probably pretty expensive lodging since its adjacent to Oakbrook office space (home of McDonalds, etc). Unless you really want to go there, push on another couple of minutes to the intersection of IL59 and I-88 in Naperville. Then we can all meet for breakfast Friday am at the Cracker Barrel. :):

:lol2 yes, intentionally. I moved around a lot growing up. and don't tell anybody, but, it's the only "yankee" spot in my upbringing.:D

so wtf. it'll probably be the only chance I get to swing by there and take a quick tour down memory lane. we can still meet for breakfast somewhere. I'm a morning person and will be up early. I won't be there long. :lol2 a quick ride by the old house and a pic of the water tower. :D and I'm outta there.
