I was wondering if anyone has done the AZ Peace Trail on an ADV bike. It seems tailored for UTVs and Jeeps, but I want to take my big bike on it. A KTM 1290 SAR. Is this just asking for trouble, or is it a reasonable route for big bikes?

I'm wondering if it's comparable to the BDR's? I've done several of those on my 1290, including the CA South. So if this trail is similar, I'd love to take the big bike on it.

    Hi

I have ridden the trail once a few years ago and I am leaving Dec 2 to ride it again .

There are some sand sections so you need to be comfortable riding in sand.

My group will be on light and mid weight biked ( two ktm 350's and two 690's.)

In my view it would be fine on a big adv bike IF you can deal with sand

Well... this came a little too late. We tried Yuma to Quartzite, fully loaded with camping gear. The sand was killer for us with so much weight on the bikes. I think between the 2 of us, we dumped the bikes a dozen times. I think we'll try the trail again in the future with the 500's.

I spend winters in S Arizona and have ridden some sections of the Peace Trail on a light bike and a quad. No way in hell would I do it on a heavy bike. The sand and deep gravel in the washes really sucks on two skinny tires. Ive seen several guys turn their heavy bikes around and give up.

Somewhere I have a pic of a GS rider taking a sand nap at Alamo Lake while trying to cross the nearly dry river. That is part of the Peace Trail. He turned around. I really can't see how you get a bike through there without carrying it.

Here's the video of me trying it on the beast:

The fall in the video was 1 out of about 10.

Great video, thanks for posting, my KDX 220 looks like the right tool for that job! The big girls just want to take a nap after they lean over more than 15-20 degrees!
