Two Illinois corn field and coal mine riders headed to do the BDR mid September.

    KTM 1190R and A BMedW800 piloted by @vfrpilot

Maps in possession, New gear on order in my case just because.

We did the NMBDR last year.

Any experienced (or upcoming) AZBDR riders can post up pictures and or experiences.

Looking forward to being out west for a week.

    Shit yea

Picture yesterday just south of Superior AZ.

    Ok, so...

There’s a wildfire raging in the Superstition Mountains now. I may be wrong but I think the BDR goes thru there?

So far 37k acres gone. They don’t think it begins to get contained until late in July when the monsoon season hits in earnest.

I imagine by September nothing should be holding you back, but you may want to keep that link handy to keep up. It was a pretty wet winter, meaning lots of growth in Spring and now lots of dry tinder everywhere.

Without a doubt it is fun. but currently the fire is just southwest of the actual BDR right now.

If you were riding up Apache Trail (what you drove) then yes, the 88 is closed.

You have to be careful of Monsoon season in Sept, and it's still fucking hot here in lower elevations. Later Oct or early Nov would be a better choice IMO.

The monsoons come and pass rather quickly. You might actually enjoy getting rained upon!

The official Monsoon season is between June 15 and Sept 30 although the avg start date is July 7 and avg end date is Sept 13. It's the mud in places that can be bad. The kind that clogs your front wheel/fender, up on the plateau toward Flagstaff in particular. But mostly the heat. Sept isn't so much a nice time in the desert, I don't think any local would consider doing the AZBDR from June through Sept unless they didn't have a choice.

Go do the IDBDR in Sept, that's a perfect time :deal

Again *last time* I was in Arizona was a March. It rained on my parade of course.

    It was spectacular.

Stuck in the desert was the mud consideration.

We plan to be hitting the route September 21st. "Latter part of September".

Locals have more of a choice of when to ride it. Might be hot, might be mild. Only 9 days from October.

Late September is a pretty good window. If it’s hot in the desert, just start early in the day, take a siesta, and get back on it in the early evening if you are hotel’n. I did the whole thing in June that way a few years ago.
