Hey Jeff, did ya hear we broke an all time high today here in Anchorage? +50f!

100mph+ Chinook winds blew in, it's raining, and all our snow's melting. :cry

Hopefully it'll cool off and turn to snow tonight like they're forecasting.

Sounds like our cold snap "flew south!" They're gettin hammered.

It hit an official +52 here on Thursday, and that is an honest 100 degree swing from one week to the next!

HEY NOOBY...WAS THROUGH THE GORGE A FEW YEARS BACK, AND A LOCAL TOLD ME ABOUT A ROAD ON THE SOUTH SIDE THAT, I THINK, WAS BUILT BY THE CCC OR WPA. I DON'T REMEMBER A LOT ABOUT IT, OTHER THAN SHE SAID IT WAS A NICE RIDE. CHECK IT OUT.

I hope that some of you kids got out today. It was a nice day for a ride, made it as far as Bird Creek, then had to go back to reality.

I did spend some time at the Honda place drooling over the HyperMotard. That bike looks to be nucking futz, I think I need one. Dunno howit would do with studs....likely not so well. :grim

The road on the southern side of the gorge is highway 84. It is 2 lane most of the way and oh so scenic, but not very twistie. The "Old Columbia River Road" on the Oregon side is unbelieveable though short, maybe this is the road.

There are so many excellent roads and they seem to be in every direction. Highway 18 from Salem to Lincoln City is one of my favorites too! I can't wait to run it, but the weather is not fantastic, more like acceptable, if I must, kind of weather.

And it is an I MUST, year.

    Thanks my friend.

That was the official fire weather station reading at the HQ of Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge in Tok Alaska on Jan 8. I didn't get a second opinion. I heard the Tok trooper dispatch had a -79 F reading a couple of days earlier. It's not an unbelievable reading for Tok. I lived there in 1990s. I distinctly remember a -72 F reading at the Coast Guard Loran station couple miles east of Tok.

In any case i moved to Fairbanks in 1999 to warm up ! I currently can't drive up my driveway even in 4 wheel drive due to ice. Not fun ... but better than Tok. Think i'll walk to the garage ... a start up a bike and dream of spring.
