I'm starting this thread today to get myself even more psyched up, if such a thing were possible. My friend T. and I are leaving tomorrow from Portland, Oregon, heading to the Canadian Rockies on our bikes. We've got a ten-day ride planned out, with our northern-most destination being Jasper National Park in Alberta Territory.

    T. and I met in the backyard of a mutual friend a couple months ago, and immediately hit it off on many levels. For one thing, I'll be perfectly frank and say that it was awesome to find another cishet female who enjoys motorcycles about as much as I do! She started riding in 2015, I think, while I started riding in 2012. She independently caught the bug, while I got it from riding with my late husband, wyeastrider, who was always an avid consumer of reports on this forum and a huge motorcycle freak (we had seven bikes between us at one point). He passed away in early March, I'm sad to report. Fuck cancer!! I'm finding riding to be very healing, both grounding and freeing (and same goes for high-performance driving which is my other big motorsports passion). I know he'll be watching over me on this trip.

    T. has long had her eyes on this trip up to Banff and Jasper via super-fine curvy roads, courtesy of Butler Maps, and she finally found her willing co-conspirator. She's riding a 2011 BMW F650 GS (a twin!), and I'll be on my 2010 Triumph Street Triple. We're sticking to paved surfaces, so my Super Sherpa dual-sport, Ramona, sits this one out (not to mention she isn't awesome at highway speeds). Isabella, as my Triumph is known, is all serviced up, geared up, and eager to hit the road. She's never carried such a load! We test-packed last night, and will head out on Sunday afternoon after I drop my daughter off for sleep-away camp....

Maybe we'll encounter some fellow riders along the way? Don't be a stranger; we'd love to meet some motorcycling fellows. I may not post too much during the trip itself, as I'm not packing a computer and am mainly planning to hand-write a journal in the evenings as we camp. But I'll check in and appreciate knowing that we're part of a fine tribe of crazies.

    - Liz

Our basic route, heading out up through central Washington, two nights around Lake Louise with a day trip to Radium Hot Springs (and stops at many hot springs as possible!), and bombing back home on slab at the end via Seattle

Have a great trip ladies - you are in for some awesome riding!
You may see a grizzly or three up around Jasper - please don’t get off your bikes to snap pictures as they look cute and cuddly, but they are really, really fast. And sharp. And pointy.

Remember that tomorrow (Sunday) is Canada Day - expect lots of good drivers gone drunk on the roads both Sunday and Monday.

Try to post a pic or two - ride fast, don’t die.

    Joe

Hard to tell from your pins on the map, are you going through Nelson BC up to Revelstoke, or Penticton- Kelowna? the Nelson route has better MC roads and Hot springs at Ainsworth that are good for a visit.

Yep, and I'd add that Toad Rock campground in Balfour is not to be missed for two wheel camping. It's a destination in itself.
    Following along ladies!

And I'll add the highway between Kaslo and New Denver (Hwy 31A) is a sought out road to ride, with 2 hot springs near Nakusp.

Congrats on the pre-launch. You look packed and ready to go! Would estimate I might be just a day or two behind you, departing from Great Falls on Wed heading through Jasper on the way to Tuk. My ride originated much as yours, spontaneously inviting myself along with an old friend from decades ago who just happened to mention he was doing a ride this summer..... Ride safe and embrace it all.
