This is front page material! I'm so jealous it hurts!
Thought I was gonna get away with not finishing it!
Where were we, I guess heading along the ocean, riding wheelies on the beach, feeling very On-any-Sunday.
We started along the ocean, soon it turned to rocks, and then in one corner, shells, which I proceeded to get part stuck in and fill my riding gear with fragments.
When the beach gave out, we'd hit the road for a few miles, but we were always attracted back to our primordial roots.
Eventually, we headed inland in the gathering dusk:
At the La Pinta in Catavina, unloading before we chained the bikes together.
Turns out the Margaritas here were pretty good, I tried one and that was my opinion, so in the name of research I kept trying them. They kept being good. It was a fun evening, complete with some of Dave's stories from his years as a factory racer. Favorite quote of the evening- "Guy Cooper got in trouble with Suzuki for being too awesome, he was jumping his RM's so hard they would have 1" more wheelbase (stretched frame) after just a few weeks in his possession." Too awesome indeed.
In the morning, we started out by filing up, and then headed for parts unknown.
I rode here once before last year, when it had just rained. This whole section was short grass... beautiful! Good traction, too, and no dust. Not so lucky this year.
Fantastic to be around the cactus... whenever I see them I feel like I'm somewhere I don't belong. This hasn't changed at all in years of going to the desert.
We come to some badlands and David starts playing:
He makes the bike seem weightless and riding seem effortless. Great to watch!
Back to the ocean:
Mike's in here somewhere, no doubt thinking some deep thoughts...
Exploring as the tide comes in, don't get caught!
End of the road:
We found some dunes to play in, and "the world's biggest double" aka a very sweet 20' floater.
Ned rolling across:
David throwing in some english. He landed and said "no more whips with the 6 gallon!"
Turn 7 in our impromptu course:
Peaceful and tranquil:
And with that, it was in to Mama Espinosa's for some good Comida, a shower that bordered on violent, and some rest.
I could use a few more riding lessons.......guess your ride report will have to suffice........
I must go ride those beaches!!
Phenomenal photography of riding I'll never see on the GSA!
I can be at your house with my trailer in about 3.5 hours
Jobs are over rated.
How are you mounting the Touratech mount to your bike? RAM ball or 1/2" using something like the EnduroEng universal 1/2" bar?
Curious how you like the setup for rough terrain?
Dammit! I went to work and missed this!
I have been obsessed with finding this trail ever since I read about it a few weeks ago. I'll be popping my Baja Cherry next week and would love to ride it.
I know, I know, ancient Chinese secret and all that...but I'm willing to swap...how does a nice fresh kidney sound? A partially abused liver? My first born? A tour of the best single track West Texas has to offer? My little sister?
Gonna need pics of the sister.
