I'm not familiar with the GPMAP64 but if it can handle tracks you could convert the route to a track in BC and export the track to the device.

    Ed,
After horrible stress on trips, finding that all my planing work did not show up properly on the GPS, I found your tutorial. Haven't finished a complete trip but want to thank you for an excellent learning tool. At least I will know that the failure is due to my lack of understanding, not that the tool can't do the job.

I am am mac user and would be happy to convert the documentation and elaborate the details using MacOS and Base Camp.

I would use Google docs to create the document, since a Google doc can be shared by multiple authors. Did you create the original version in MS Word? If so, would you send it to me so that I can create a community version?

    thanks,

    Mike May

    I didn't know I could do that. I'll give that a try.

We have a draft of the MAC version of the tutorial and should be posting it up in the very near future..

Hopefully the Mac version includes what to do when Basecamp crashes every 5 or 10 minutes erasing all of your work... So frustrated with this pos software....

I just spent 30+ hours working with BaseCamp on my wife's Macbook without a single crash.

There is a longish thread on the garmin support forum about this issue, seems to be an issue with the retina display models. As per their normal mode of operation garmin could not appear to give a rats ass about it. Basecamp on my Mac has been doing this since day one and has continued through several software revisions, frustrating is not even close to an accurate description.

Back on topic, thanks for taking the time to put together the tutorial, there is some great information there.

In Mapsource I could create a route using two waypoints using Direct Routing but when I Attempt a route with Basecamp using direct routing the program will auto route the path from A to B. Can you just display a straight line between two points in Basecamp on a City Navigator map? I find this useful when planning.

    Just select activity profile 'Direct'.

That just creates an auto route following the roads of its choice, not a straight line between two points.

I didn't intend this thread to be a Q&A on BaseCamp - but just to point out a useful resource. You may want to ask your question in a new thread where more folks are likely to see it.
BTW the answer 18218 provided is correct.

It does create a direct line for me.

Another annoying thing that is happening is that I cannot Undo by using the Control + Z.

Going to take a look at this. I decided to keep my Garmin Montana and give it and Base Camp another try as well. I am trying to learn both by trial and error but its been mostly error. LOL

Thanks for putting this together. I tried Basecamp once and gave up when I couldn't figure out how to create or even open an existing Mapsource route.

I just bought a new mac (windows convert) and was not looking forward to trying this again. I even kept an old windows machine just to have something to run Mapsource on. I'm going to try again using this.

Excellent Tutorial - Very in depth from what I've gleaned through. I'll be getting my Nuvi 2757LM and a RAM case in a week. I will be seriously working though the PDF. Much thanks, Ed!

    Cheers .....
