I can't help but notice the lack of graffiti and how clean everything is! Very different in the US- I see graffiti everywhere, even in small towns far, far away from the big cities. It makes me sad and angry at the same time.

:-) Thanks - so hers a "special". Naaa - not realy. But..... let's see it.

Autumn is comming - so it's a good idea to visit the "Eng-Alm" at the "Großer Ahornboden". It's a part of Austria, which can only be reached by Germany. That means the only road to the eng alm is comming from Germany - there is no road to other Austrian parts. :-)

    So let's see it.

this was one km ilegal. This track is closed for public travel. (near Bichl).

so back on normal road - to view the little river

    the other side

fire-fighters in the back -- in front - a quite new thing -- sit down here if you want to be a passenger. Car drivers can stop and take you with them.

at Lenggries - Brauneck mountain - Trees get color.

Sylvenstein lake - send some time here. Looked at all the bikers and had a very nice talk with an 85 year old guy. We talked about Bikes (he had a Maico), Covid, being fit in high age and how expensive modern bikes are. He was smiling then we talked about heated seats, heated grips - he never had this. Even he had no warm clothes in his biker time.

    other side of the dam

lot's of bikes on sundays here.

    way up to Eng Alm

    nice colored trees

Karwendel mountains - even a huge mountain-bike trail here in this area.

    close to the top

    first set of maple trees.

at the end of the valley - Eng Alm

next set of trees (that's why the tourists come)

    closer to the maple trees

    next set

    the trees are quite old

    much older than KTM

yellow is the main color this weeks

only for a short time before winter is comming.

    the end of the valley

a huge parking and some bars - from here you can walk and do some mountain-biking for the next 50 km.

the way to Eng-Alm (1 km to walk)

    the tourist hotspot

get some selfmade cheese - a Kaminwurzen and some fresh made bread. yummy

    same way back than

    Ahornboden (maple trees)

    down from here

    mountains quite close

    wild river near the road

    fast and cold

valley to the left - into the Karwendelmountains

still the river close to the road.
Passed the Toll-station (to Eng-Alm is a toll road)
Back to Sylvenstein and then on to Achensee. Close before Achensee left to Steinberg am Rofan

a small road - to Kaiserklamm

    with great views.

and easy to ride gravel - on of the less legal gravel roads in the area.

    sometimes a bit more steep

    river to Kaiserklamm

    a KTM

behind the guesthouse Kaiserklamm you can do some short gravel highway. (a dead end)

back to Steinberg - the way i came down (very small way here)

you have to take care about cars and mountainbikers

    and waterfalls

even steep down near the road

    more space here

    and good views

close to the end of gravel

    :-)

Steinberg am Rofan as last pic.
So than - back to Sylvenstein, Bad Tölz and home.

    A colorful day.

    to be continued...

    have fun

Ammersattel, near Plansee yesterday. Not by bike, too cold for me. So have to wait for the next warm wind from Italy. ;-)

Nearly no traffic in Austria due to covid situation. Hotels and Restaurants looked totally closed. Got some small food at gas station in Reutte.

Happy new year to all of you.
Traveling Germany is still restricted. We have to stay at home during the night.
Yesterday a did a small tour by car to Sudelfeld ski area. Was cool.
And today ... New years day ... i did what i never did before ...
    I opend the Bike season 2021 with a small tour :-) :-)

    Let's see it.

    Map of the tour
    [IMG]
Plan was to go round lake Starnberg, but weather skipped the plan. ;-)

    Profile of the tour:

Started at sunshine and +2°C - went north direction Beuerberg.
After 6 km turned to the left and get up a nice hill with a view.

View from Faistenberg to the alps

Zoomed - the smoke in the forest is Roche Diagnostics factory. Behind Roche - Kochelsee and Walchensee area.

3 km later - view along the alps - direction Bad Tölz

I went to lake Starnberg and then north. Weather gets more and more bad. So i decided to go to Icking

Frozen lake in Irschenhausen (near Icking). Dark clouds in the background

view below Irschenhausen to the alps

Then went to Schäftlarn monastary. Saw this the first time. (view always was blocked by bushes before). Has a sign "Ave Maria"

behind Bruckenfischer beergarden in followed the Isar-River-Canal. (on of my bycicle tours). Was a dead end, because passing to Wolfratshausen is not allowed on sundays.

last nice view here. 1 km later at Aumühle i had to turn back.

    dramatic light above Deining.

    view direction Deining and alps

sun vs clouds - (we should have more snow at this time of the year) -- will get some snow the next days

near Beuerberg they create this little ice area every winter. Children have fun

the hole area. Also used for "Eisstockschießen" -- Wiki here
text in english is very short - much much longer is the german version.

short before home - i went up to Zist -- to get this view

freezing horse? view to Karwendel mountains (Kochelsee - Walchensee)

bad waether vs good weather -- impressive

a last look - 4 km before home -- Parking of Cafe Märzenhof - view to Blomberg (direction Bad Tölz)

and some min later back home into the warm. :-)

In normal winter this is not so easy like today. Much more snow normaly.
    But i had fun.

Andreas, would you consider putting your photo titles at the top of the picture instead of the bottom??? I find myself scrolling down to see the next pic, then scrolling back up to see the description, then scrolling back down to see the pic in context. It would make a much smoother viewing experience. In any case, I enjoy these pics and dream of visiting Bavaria and other places in Germany some day. I would also love to visit the places up north associated with Martin Luther, along with so many other places of historical significance. Oh, and these places you show are soooooo clean!

So, did a service for the KTM last week (37k) and get a new rear tire.
Did a small tour yesterday - started at sun and 16°C, went through heavy wind and ended in windy 10°C. (got some snow this morning).

    So let's see:

    Map of the tour:

    Profile:

Was thinking the first 3 km where to go. Austria still not possible. So Allgäu or Chiemsee area.
    After 3 km -- let's go Allgäu.

View from City border Penzberg to Zugspitze (Campground Penzberg near the lake)

Went direction Weilheim and then on direction Landsberg/ Lech.
    Found this at Rott

so now you know how the milk finds it's way from the cow to the supermarket.
    Next stop
    Landsberg/ Lech city
    [IMG]
still not much people arround because of Covid restrictions.

Leaving Landsberg to Erpfting, then found this - didn't know what they got Conzentration camps in this area.
more Info you find here (Wiki). Kauferning VII was part of KZ Dachau.

500m to walk - entrance is closed for public vistis.

sign is telliing the story of the camp (Left picture - red dot - "you are here")

this says that this are the last original Inmate accommondations in Germany

You can see 4 of them
    [IMG]

Memorial stones in the center of the area
    [IMG]

at the entrace at the parking also this stone
    [IMG]

So i went on - on a very nice small road.
Found this (you can also walk into the water here (Kneip)) at Waal
    [IMG]

Weather gets more bad - wind was very strong - but direction alps it looked better
    [IMG]
    nice small roads direct. Kaufbeuren

Alps in the background. Typical church.

Kaufbeuren, my last visits have been in dark. To support my Icehickey team (Bayreuth Tigers). So after a long time see this in daylight. :-)
Erdgas Schwaben arena - home of ESC Kaufbeuren.

So i went down to Füssen and then real fast home - wind now in my back. :-) Getting colder and colder.

So a last look to the Murnau-area and it's mountains.

    Schöffau (Close to Uffing)

a last zoomed look -- snow still down to 1000 m alt. (+/-)
