aaaahhh. nice to see pics of the old walled cities and makes me want to go back.
Good travels. Thank you for the effort to share them, Franken.
Thanks for your kind comments.
Today .... was the day.....
i could pass a border and come back without going into quarantine.
So after a long, long, long time .....
I went to...
Let's see it.
Map of the tour
as you see - i've been to Austria and Italy.
into the alps
up and down.... let's explain. First up to Seefeld (Austria) - than down to Innsbruck. Next up - Brenner Pass - Down to Sterzing - Up to Jaufenpass - Down to Meran.
A Pass i don't know behind Merano, then Tonale, Gavia, Stelvio - at last Reschen and Fernpass to Garmisch.
Let's see the pics.
started at not so good weather until Mittenwald.
Border Control at Austria then, they check it you got a PCR-Test, or if you stay in Austria. I told them i go to Italy and back - so no problem - could pass.
reached Passo Brennero round 12:35. - Italian border - no control
behind Sterzing - up Jaufenpass, quite fast behind a local rider. After that small stop.
Top of Jaufenpass - Look to Pasaier-valley. (check for Andreas Hofer)
Merano Center - 33°C.
look to the other side.
small nice pass road behind Merano - don't know the name.
still hot here (35°C)
cable passes me -- what you see in the fields -- fruit trees. (mostly apple)
nice small road with tons of curves - and a nice lake
near Cis. (a small town near the lake)
the way i went on. (direction Passo Tonale)
Ossana - had a Africa Twin Meeting here years ago.
red road houses in Italy. Passo Tonale - km 162. (have to find out what are these houses for)
view from Ossana to (Val di Sole?)
view to the mountains at Pizzano
4* Hotel behind the view - 350€/ Night. (looked up tonight at booking....) ;-)
some km later - reached Passo Tonale - a biker meeting point. (sure - a bar, a Pizzaria - all you need) ;-)
war memorial at Passo Tonale
look back to the town - a ski resort - frontier between Lombardia and Trento.
going up the very small road to Gavia pass (most time no space for 2 cars side by side)
melting - close to the top of Gavia
the way i came
top of Gavia
find the boat in this pic (hint: it's near the lake)
the way down to Bormio.
at Bormio i left my planned track - didn't go to Livingio - went up to Stelvio.
a lot of water this time
top of Stelvio - and Ortler mountain. Got some Bratwurst (like always then i'm here)
the way down
50 hairpins from top to valley
good to ride than less traffic. (was late)
down in the valley - they rebuild this thing (an ofen??)
war memorial at Reschen Pass
looking down the very special area at Reschenpass. (also know for strong wind)
mostly fotographed - church at Reschen lake (see also the mini at the flowers)
the lake was empty last weeks for repairs at the dam. Now water is comming back.
so - last light - last pic -- Zugspitze seen from Fernpass.
50 min later reached home.
-- what a nice day.
to be continued....
All of that beauty in a single day . . . yeah nice day indeed.
Yes, a 2 week holiday in a day, but I needed that after all this time.
@franken once again thanks for sharing. Wow....all those passes in one trip, in one day!!! Whoo Hoo!!!!
Very, very nice pictures! Also some familiar sites, that I have visited myself. Thank you! I really miss traveling :-(
Thanks for the great RR and pics!
I think it's worth noting for that for those of us that reside in the EU, a proof of vaccination OR PCR test is required to enter Austria.
I hope Austria adopts the ‘3G’ rules soon: geimpft, getestet, genesen (vaccinated, tested, recovered). I plan to come this fall!
truth is no big deal on 1290...nice report Andreas. now you can take a week off....
had my online-study lesson this morning and changed the KTM against my race bike this afternoon.
Tomorrow some friends will visit us for a BBQ, So more KTM next week.
Pics - at Isar river near Wolfratshausen and Schäftlarn
Isar river at Schäftlarn
andreas. yes, it's ready to race. black is the new orange...
here's some good news. i may now be able to see friends there in October after the Balkan trip.
this thread needs a fresh ride report.
Andreas, hope to see a big ride to the south....
Wonderful pictures franken. Thanks for taking the time to post them.
very difficult to get tiers at the moment.
A long story! Took me 3 weeks (bike in the garage). Wanted to get a new pair of TKC 80, get a Pirelli in the front, a Conti in the rear.
For the TKC they told me -- delivery in Sept./ October.
Wanted a pair of Cont Trail Attack than, so they orderd a rear one. They thought they have a front one, but today they saw that front is a Pirelli. The asekd if it is leagal and possible, get told "Yes". So....
Just ordered a pair of TKC 80 -- to get some for holiday in Aug./ Sept. -- will see.
Tomorrow I go to Stelvio pass again, with a friend from work.
So new report is coming soon.
so - -- after all these trouble with the tires. Could go on tour again -- so....
Here's the map
and the profile
two seven something alt. -- 250km away from home?? Yes -- Passo Stelvio. (again).
Last week a friend at work asked me for a tour. He wanted to ride Stelvio. So we decided to make a tour (next) Saturday. Google told about good weather. Only problem was - i had no tiers. Finaly got them on friday so we could go. (otherwise i could have an 2021 KTM SAR for a testride ). During the week also Dolomoto requested me for a tour in the Grafenwöhr area. I saw it quite late (on Friday) so we need to shedule a tour some other time...
But now .. let's see the pics.
Meeting close to my home early in the morning. He had a 50 min ride from Munich area
Fun fact of the day -- we saw a lot of BMW - KTM groups. (seems to be an new trend. ;-) )
First time for me - we connected our Sena -- so first time i could talk during the tour. Was cool.
fist stop for a coffee - Lake Plansee (Austria).
only some early birds around. (later the day it get's crowded)
still existing at the Kiosk -- the helmet cleanig station - so we used it.
next we passed Namlos road - (still with 95 db limit - so no loud bikes allowed to go). Still no time for pice in all those nice curves.
Next break was...
Hahntennjoch. Also 95db limit. fresh paved. so not so slippery anymore.
look down direction Imst.
foto stop close to Imst
on of the nice curves at Hahntennjoch. (most time i write Hantenjoch ) The sign at the curve says: "Please drive quietly. You are driving through a recreation area. Respect nature"
we passed Imst and went to Pitztal to reach Piller Höhe.
Cafe with a great view and ...
after a long long walk (for walking in bike boots)
we reached the plattform..
to get this view (direction Landeck)
and to the other side.
We went down to "Kaunertal-Valley" and on to Reschenpass. Passed Nauders and stopped there all stop....
was very crowded this time. The well known church at lake Reschen.
Still some water left after the made the lake empty some months ago.
cool for a walk.
we went down Reschen passroad. And stoped at the bautyful old (medieval) town of...
After some "Würschtel" and some drinks we were ready to get the final step.... Up to....
top of Passo Stelvio.
a bit higher than the "normal" pass road - at the "Tibet-house". (alpine guesthouse Tibet hut)
last part of Stelvio pass road
tons of GS and KTM and some others
look town to the top of the pass road. (btw. never been walking up the building at the right top).
doing the snow pics. ;-)
another view to Stelvio (up from Prad side).
and the last part.
A lot of bicycles on the road. 50% woman on bicycle. (wow). We had luck getting up. Not much buses, only one camper blocked a curve. That's Stelvio.
a last look, direction Bormio and Umbrail pass.
We went down via Umbrail pass and went back to Reschen. We went on to Imst and managed it to avoid the upcomming thunderstorms.
At Telfs road was wet, up to Leutasch, Walchensee and Kochel.
Back at Penzberg a young told us Thunderstorm will arrive in next minutes. So my friend went on to reach his home dry.
20 min later it looked like this.
Normaly you can see the alps on this pic. Now a rainbow and heavy rain, nice flashes and loud thunder.
to be continued...
nice trip report. I've not travelled to the "tibet-house" in the times I've been to Stelvio; it looks like a nice vantage point.
I noted your comments on the noise limit; how are they measuring the sound? are they just going by the stamp on the muffler?
Thank you for sharing these outings Andreas. Beautiful places you ride to.
