Me and my mates did a tour of Austria/Switzerland/Northern Italy just a month ago. We got the overnight train from Dusseldorf to Innsbruck, and we stayed at the Hotel Enzian in Landeck. Those alpine passes are something else to ride.

Your pics bring all the great memories flooding back. Some great rides you've done there Andreas, and thanks for the excellent pics.

Thanks for your likes and comments.

here we go - next tour -- one of the last alpine Tours maybe this year - depends on when the snow will come and the roads get closed.

Was very warm for October last sunday - so i decided to take one of the last chances this year and try to reach the dolomites.
    Here is the map.

Tour outline: Home - Garmisch - Mttenwald - Innsbruck - Brenner - Penser Joch - Bolzano (Bozen) - Val di Fassa - Passo Sella - Brixen - Sterzing - Brenner - Innsbruck - Home

the weather was so great - focus was on riding, not on making pics at the first time. Also a lot of weekend-traffic. And even - took so much pics in this area - so it is hard to make some more. First pics behind Brenner, when going up from Sterzing to Penser Joch.

    Let's see the pics.

in the valley - the fast road to Bozen.

    looking direction Sterzing - Brenner

    closer look to the mountains

might be Freienfeld - near Sterzing

    the road i came up

on the other side - the long decent to Bozen

    round 40 km down

not much rain this year - a lot of brown color

then i reached Bozen - i decided to visit the Dolomites -- some km later -- Rosengarten

    and a beautyful blue lake

    Karersee

    not big, but beautyful

    and clear water

    surrounded by impressiv mountains

    Rosengarten - Climbers paradise

    zoomed

    zoomed 2

started at home at 20°C -- here at late afternoon i got 12°C - a bit later 9°C -- back home in the dark 20°C again - crazy
So on to Vigo di Fassa and the great look to

    Sella

sheeps - brought down in the valley

short after the crossing with Pordoi Pass - at Sella Pass road -- look to Marmolada

Sella - one of the most impressive views in the alps.

    can't get enough of this

at the right - top of passo Sella

    still can't get enough

also climbers paradise -- and mountainbikers and skiing

even the light at late afternoon was great

    love this

and a small look to Sella pass road.

    direction Wolkenstein - Gröden

other side of Sella -- with the option for the "Sella ronda" - 4 passes - 52 km -- Sella, Pordoi, Campolongo, Grödnerjoch --
If you want to do it by bike -- look here.
    on ski -- look here

the road is often very close to the rocks

    last look --
so i went down to Brixen. Reached Innsbruck at sunset and home at dark.

    a great day

    have fun

    Hi all,

Spent 2 weeks in Morocco between X-mas and New year. But had a rental car - so no report about the tour is allowed here. --

So let's go on with bike story.

winter starts to leave in Bavaria, so i'm back with my small reports.
3 weeks ago my actual bike went to the garage to get some Service and updates.

Installed a chain-oiler from CLS. (a german company) and heated grips. :-)

Yesterday it was (much too) warm in south germany - so a first small tour was possible. (had to visit an icehockey playdown game late afternoon - so not soooo much time). :-)

    enough talking.

    the Tour in Garmin:

    the profile:

Leaving Penzberg - direction Bad Tölz.

5 km outside Penzberg - view to Bichl, Mountain Herzogstand, Kesselberg

    Next stop -- Sylvenstein-dam. A nice meeting-point on Sundays.

still ice on the lake. view direction Eng (and Austria)

a Transalp joined in- The black dot on the ice is a butterfly

    Pic from my mobile

Went to Achenpass - (935 m alt.) Still a lot of snow there. Near the road people where Nordic skiing.

    Next stop -- lake Tegernsee.

10 km later - lake Schliersee.

other view (nearly the same, but shows more lake. ;-)

Went on to Bayrisch Zell and left Germany to Austria -- on the way down to Kufstein (Tyrol). Thiersee.

nearly the same view - without disdurping bike. ;-)

From Kufstein i went back to Germany to Tatzelwurm and Sudelfeld - also a well known biker meeting-point

    still skiing possible

    other side of the road

    view to "Wilder Kaiser"-Mountains. (Austria)

Bar at the top of the road was closed. So i quick went home to join the Icehockey game with my friends.

    A last pic

to be continued. (plans to go to Isny, Harburg, Kehlheim and Fucking in my mind (and in my Garmin)). :deal:-)

    have fun

    Andreas

P.S.: my pic-hoster closed his service -so i had to change the hoster -- hope we can see the old pics without too much work for me. Tell me if you have problems to watch my other (old) reports

Next Tour - going to Harburg

Not the Harburg in Hamburg - the City of Harburg near Donauwörth was the target. Some weeks ago i planned 4 bigger rides with "kurviger.de". It's a web-tool where you can plan trips on small an curvy roads - works fantastic on Europe-roads. This is the first of 4.

    Map:

you see - going north dirc. Munic -- no big mountains. ;-) but nice roads and curves and nearly no traffic on the roads i have choosen. :-) :-) :-)

    crossing the "Donau" (Danube)

is huge because of a dam right here

small hills - small roads -- small traffic. Realy fun

the target of the day -- City of Harburg and it's castle

    down in the valley

    the river passing Harburg

    river crossing? ;-)

    better on the bridge.
Had no time to visit the castle - was already 16:00 when i reached Harburg. So had to go back fast. Get out of my planned track and took a faster option.

    last look to the castle

passing Donauwörth - ADAC Heli in a roundabout -- a tribiute to the german flying doctors.

Last stop - short to home -- lake Starnberg

    less water than last year

    Hi all,
todays tour is a special sense of german humor. So i made a tour with places which might be "adult-only". :-)
like always - here the map

    tour_fu.JPG

    and the profile

    profile_fu.JPG

so we visit the Chiemgau and some km of Austria. Let's see the pics.

    First Stop -- "Bad" Tölz.

    parking at the river Isar.

2 little beauties in the river

    view away from Tölz

    still here (very clear water)

view direction Tölz (good or "Bad"?)

As last week i followed a track created on "Kurviger.de" - following smallest roads. So no chance to go fast most time. :-) but Xplore new sights in a known area.

    River Mangfall was next

    Mangfall bridge

    Mangfall other direction

some km later - Lake Hausham

    a second view.

Went on near the Highway leading down to Kufstein and Rosenheim - still on small roads.

Irschenberg - well known for his traffic jams - but near the highway - a pilgrim-church.

passesd Rosenheim in some distance and crossed the river Inn (here Inn-bridge)

view to famous lake Chiemsee from distance (on small roads - highway nearby)

still a lot of damage in the forests after some storms and heavy snowfalls.
Cool thing was - when passing small villages on these small roads -- i saw some families/ groups having party in the garden - greeting me/ greeting back. Lot's of bicycle rider, happy when i reduce speed. a lot of fun at all.

one of many nice churches in the area

    next i reached this. -- :raabia:sweeti:sweeti:sweeti:sweeti:crash:viking

    spring (feeling) is comming

next strange town. ;-) What does moning mean? ;-) or is it moaning? :wings

Tittmoning has a nice center. (long time ago it was part of the salt-road).

    the way out

    some shops - some restaurants

crossing the river Salzach to Austria - Church and castle of Tittmoning. (Wiki engl)

    River Salzach

    other direction

    other country

so only some more km to reach the town with the most stolen sign in Europe. :hmmmmm:confused

    yes - it's

    :-)

    FYYFF!! Salut

so up to here the tour was about - Petting, Titts and Fucking. ... now get back to seriousness

    fucking KTM ?? -- no ---
    so back to seriousness

and back to germany after some km. So like last weekend i had to hurry.

Lake Chiemsee -- North coast. A place for some "romantic"? pics. (in the background).

    differend view

    monastery Seeon and lake

was the last pic. Went on to Rosenheim - Irschenberg - Miesbach - Bad Tölz - failed the rain at Blomberg montain and arrived home dry -- (It's raining now in the night).

so .. to be continued ....

    have fun

Happy easter days to all of you.
Here in Bavaria/ Germany we have a lot of luck this year - warm weather/ blue sky -- so after using my bicycle yesterday -- today i did a nice tour into the Allgäu and did a small touch the alps at Namlos valley.

Enough talking -- let's see it.

    like most times ....

    map to the tour:
    nam_map.JPG

    profile of the tour:

    nam_porf.JPG

in the first part i followed my planned track on small roads to Isny. So first the small shortcut behind my hometown Penzberg, passing Zist.

Roche factory near Penzberg is the ugly thing in the front. In the background Germanys highest mountains.

my turtles love this yellow plats - me the small roads around.

Space comm. station Raisting in the background.

looking back - there the alps beginn.

Hola chicks. This is quiet common these days - give your chicken a mobile home and "space".

    cross near Berg

Berg - small road - happy little cows.

comming closer to Hohenpeisenberg. -- farmland

at Marktoberndorf i decided to leaf my track and went on this road to Nesselwang - Pfonten to take a small ride in the alps.

same stop - differend view. Was a fantastic chance to watch the first line of the alps from distance today - clear sight.

after pasing the touristic town of Pfronten i went to Thannheimer Tal. Here i stoped to make some pics and get a surprise ....

I heared the noise of an helicopter (from the top of this mountain in the background)

this is not a training ...

this was a real life rescue. the 2 first responder and the injured young lady there placed here in the gras. Heli landed and they put here inside the Heli to bring her in a hospital. Think she was falen and had trouble walking on.

I went on - down to Lech valley and next stop at beginning of Namlos

    look back to Lech valley

this road is very popular for bikers (but be careful - a lot of police and speed control) ... 21 - 22 ...

    next one . :-)

a group of 4 into the first curves

still a lot of snow in the alps -- alt.: 1300m

near the end of Namlos road

    behind me

went to Reutte - could stop here - to watch the newest "adventure" in this area.

    a cable-stayed bridge over the valley - 200 m above ground

    crowded

Last nice part -- lake Plansee

    clear blue (sky and water)

this road is also a biker favourite

    closer look

not so crowded today - very nice

last stop - biker meeting point at lake Plansee.
Some more km to reach home again.

    to be continued.....

    have fun

Great stuff as usual Andreas!! Thank you! Always so pretty and clean. As a child we would spend weekends in Reutte and stay with an old couple in there house. The “Obermeyers”. Went to ski school there too..Hahnenkam I think. Cheers! ERIC

so - back from a long day ride on small roads - not to the alps - to the north of muich. So today - flat land. :-)
    Tour to Kehlheim.
    Let's see it.

as most times -- heres the map

    map_kehl.JPG

    and the profile

    prof_kehl.JPG

    what a descent today :-) :-)

so the next planned tour on small roads today. Took me first to Beuerberg, Geretsried and on direction Dietramszell.

nearly no traffic - green and yellow (and blue)

if you look to the right you see the alps

Behind Otterfing i found the Arche - an economic farm with a cafe for guests.

Some km later i crossed the highway from Munich to Kufstein/ Rosenheim/ Salzburg

    their traffic

my traffic :-) :-) ;-) (and today "the little orange animal without name" joined me)

a lot of horses like this ones on tour

Erding area (Airport Munich far in the background - all 30 sec. 2 planes lift of)

close to Freising - crossing river Isar. (the Isar comming from the alps, passing Munich and reach Danube)

    other side

    Closer look

Visited my friend Ralf and his Family in Freising for some minutes and went on direction north.

    Crossing River Amper

in this area - very rare in germany - some "open" gravel roads (the most gravel in germany is forbidden to ride).

after ca. 2 km a restplace

and some km later another one. :-) (very easy offroad) ;-)

the region is "the Hallertau" - famous for "Hopfen" (engl. "hop") -- the stuff you need to brew beer. The world largest area for hop-planting. (Wiki)

pillgrimage sanctuary Heiligenbrunn. (Wiki in German)

After some more km i reache Kehlheim -- and first you see the "Highlight" of Kehlheim. (or one of them).

Danube (Donau) River - and tonns of tourists.

so - up the hill - pay for parking - to see this

Befreiungshalle Kehlheim - Hall of Liberation Kehlheim - (Wiki German) and (Wiki engl)

and did you know - my Nickname is part of the hall - (the region i was born - Franken).

Look down to Kehlheim and Danube river

above the entrance - "for the german freedom fighters - King Ludwig I - King of bavaria.

    a small look inside.

    Bavarians also fought for freedom

back to the parking - a gem - an original Tenere

so bike -parking was the closest to the hall.

Down to Kehlheim again and some 7 km more - the next highlight in this area. Kloster Weltenburg.

600 m before Weltenburg - road is closed for all vehicles. To reach this beergarden - you need to ...

    take the ferry :-)

Danube river - and people walking back to the parking

i didn't walk to Weltenburg today - just watched the ferry -- (Wiki Weltenburg engl.) and (German (more text))

another some km -- next highlight -- the Limes --

Castell Abusina near the town Eining --

Rebuild walls in the area - (Wiki german) and (English (poor small text)) --

Limes in general (Wiki Ger) and (Wiki engl)

2011 the place was opend for the public. (passed it 2009, saw nothing).

now on the way back - a nice lake (with a beach).

this is well known - mostly by Africa Twin riders -- AQ - AfricanQueens - Enduro special parts -- (Link to Website)

as old as Touratech - but never grown so much. (for me both have been the major Enduroparts manufactors).

Close to Freising - River Amper crossing again

Then reached Dachau -- a city with history. (bad history).

Easter monday - late afternoon - no entrace.

    Concentration Camp Dachau.

so passed Munich in the west and...

reached this between Gauting and Starnberg. (nice river, nice curvers)

    other direction

So last part of the day -- Lake Starnberg - Wolfratshausen and ...

Beuerberg at sunset - 8km later @ home.

    a historical day

    to be continued....

    haver fun

Riding in Bavaria has been a long dream of mine; right along with two Swedish chicks at once. Silly jokes aside, I must do it. I just have to get my ass to Europe one of these days.

    Hi all,

first - as i seldom do - a bit small talk. :-) (prefer to let the pics speak)
@V1ROT8 : If you come close to me - and i have time - we can go for a "guided tour". ;-)

    next point -- a milestome for me has been reached with this threat -- 5000 views -- Thank you -- ;-) next milestones -- 10k, 50k, 100k, 500k ... :-)

so - last weekend i didn't use the bike. I asked my wife Tina "what about going to munich zoo?". She said yes - as she don't want to ride motobikes at the moment -- so we went to Hellabrunn (Munich Zoo). I did some 200 Pics -- here you will get some to give you an idea.

they learned to use sticks to get the goodies.

    elephant talk

    ping ponguin

    vegetarian Icebear

    poser duck

    Ibis (not the Hotel)

:-) was a cool afternoon - with hurting feet. ;-)

Next day off was may 1st. So in the night 31 to 1st was the so called "Freinacht" - that means the young kids are doing more or less heavy jokes with your garden door, car or whatever. Also the night is called "Walpurgisnacht". (Wiki) so some witches where flying around the hole night. :-).
The other tradition on 1st may - is to put up the maypole and dance into may. (Wiki)

And i - i did a bike tour into Ötztal. so here we go ..... or as some say -- this thread is nothing without pics! :-)

    Map:

    tour_oetz.JPG

    Profile:

    prof_oetz.JPG

as you see - in this tour the 3000 m alt. is not so far away -

so todays target is the Ötztal in Austria. At the start the first challenge - road into Penzberg was cloesed, because a maypole should be lifted in this part of Penzberg. So took an alternate road and jumped on the highway to Garmisch. At the end of the higway you pass Oberau and then you have a clean look to

Tunnel Farchant and Zugspitze (Germanys highest mountain).

    Zoomed

Normaly i dont like this road - too much traffic - but on weekends is the only way to reach Mittenwald, because "Kesselberg-road" is forebitten for Motobikers.

So some km later i reached ...

Mittenwald - German army barracks (Gebirgsjäger/ Mountaineer) and Karwendel mountains.

Zoomed in -- you can go on the top by cable -- or as i did in the army - by foot.

Passed Mittenwald and went up to Leutasch Klamm (a nice small canyon).

after the canyon - you pass the frontier to Austria and ride along the nice valley

the river - very clear water

2 girls on BMW passed me

later in the valley - closer to Seefeld -- at the Austrian side of the Zugspitze

i didn't take the road to Seefeld, i took the direct on - from here you go down to the Inn valley. Biker love this part.
So i had to follow the Inn for some km - than left into Ötztal. As Timmelsjoch was still closed (winter closure) it was not sooooo much traffic there. :-)
    First sidestep was

The highest waterfall in Tyrol. (here's the panoram parking)

so 20m to walk to see this ...

    Stuiben(water)fall at Umhausen

Some km more up - the road ends here. (an old wrought). So back down the same road. (as nearly all side roads in Ötztal are dead-ends)

view down from end of road

Next was Sölden. Road up to Rettenbachferner was open - so up we go. First stop under the cable

half of the road up - the toll station shows up -- 6 € later i could go on. (alt. round 2000 m)

after the toll station - you can see the first target at the end of the valley - the ski resort

    look like fun for 2

some hairpins later - a look back to Ötztal and the way i came up

and at the parking of the ski resort -- alt 2400 m

look to other direction -- an other bike showed up - skiing tourists prepair to go back to home or Hotel

the one road to get more high i remebered was closed. Could not reach the church.

    skiing - still fun
So this parking and 2400 was not the end -- found out that there is an other road up i havent seen at my last visit. So i entered a tunnel for a while and came out at

2800 m alt -- highest paved road in the alps at the moment. (Wiki)

This part is called Tiefenbachferner. (the tunnel is named Rosi Mittermaier tunnel - she was a great german olympic champion).

the end of the tunnel -- was quite cold and foggy inside - 1°C

    view direction Timmelsjoch/ Ötztal

look to ski area -- one of the last James Bond movies was filmed here (Spectre)

Very nice -- so all the way back down - and all the way back the Ötztal untill Oetz. Then rigtht and up to Kühtai pass road

middle of Kühtai -- nice small river

clear water - still snow left

close to the top - dam and lake

    other direction

close to the top - the ski area -- impressive half pipe ;-)

    the way i came up

    ski area

at the top of the pass road - outside the hotel area

    the way down direction Innsbruck

a group of young austrian bikers had a lot of fun

    very much fun

    3 times fun

    also on austrian bikes. :-)

So after all this fun i went on down to Inn valley and up to Seefeld and Mittenwald. Next stop was ...

    lake Walchensee

my little orange co-rider without name take a look to Karwendel mountains.
Down the Kesselberg road and it's fantastic curves - on sundays only going down is possible by bike - going up is forbitten by law for motorbikes.

Last stop was Kochel and ...

the fresh set up maypole. in the background they had music, dance, beer, foot..

Passed new maypole in Bichl and Penzberg and reached home to have some bbq.

    to be continued....

    have fun

    Hi all,

back for the next installment. :-)
After +3° last wednesday (the ice saints) and a lot of rain - summer came back today ... but didn't stay - have a weather warning with flood possible for the next days. :-(

todays tour touched the alps -- so here ......

    the Map of the tour

    tour_kitz.JPG

    and the profile

So - passed Bad Tölz first - went to Sylvenstein. Then down to Inn-valley and get some gas at a station near the highway and river inn. When i wanted to go on a rare bike came in - so had to make a pic.

    a Indian

not often seen in Germany (and Austria)

went into "Zillertal" and wanted to ride the High alpine road there. Going up - pasing a nice waterfall. (not build by nature).

at the Toll-station road ended because of too much snow. So have to try later in the year. Went down the same road and on to Gerlos.

short before reaching the ground. - Zillertal

Gerlos - ski area and pass road

    the look back.

    the mountains nearby

ski area 2 and a lake close to the top of the pass

If you stay on this road - you reach an other "Toll-Road". You can bypass it on a small road.

small road down with interesting views. (and sometimes cows on the road).

    more bikes going down here

half the way down - nice view (bad way to walk to school every day ;-) )

the road is realy small - one car up - on car down -- is very interesting sometimes.

close to the ground - view direction Mittersill (And national park "Hohe Tauern"). Wiki

Next stop -- Krimmler Wasserfälle -- Highest waterfalls in Austria -- Wiki.
And very intersting -- seen the first time in Europe -- a Biker safe at the biker parking - you can store your helmet, jacket, whatever in a box, and walk the the waterfalls. NOT BAD!!! (and for free).

this is what you can see if you don't walk. ;-)

an other service at the bike parking - motorbike tours in the area -- (this a a tour over 6 pass-roads)

Austrian houmor -- "Nocky Mountain - Tour" -- find out what it means. ;-)

a last look to the waterfall (and the little orange animal) --- and on we go

some km later i found a sign "Rossberg Panoramastrasse" -- so let'd find out -- was difficult. Panoramic road for me is a road somewhere up, somewhere down - this was a dead end -- but nice.

view direction Krimml - the way i came.

    nice way down.

So weather become more bad. I went to Mittersill and could see some rain comming. Get up to Pass Thurn and get catched by rain for 10 min. Then reached ....

Kitzbuehl -- view to "Wilder Kaiser" Mountains.

the look back -- to the rain area.

Short after Kitzbuehl i get catched by heavy rain and hail for the next 15 km. Get totaly wet. :-( -- heating right into the next valley to Kufstein - escaped the rain and had sun again. From Kuftein up to Bayrischzell.

this lake is not always there. Close to Bayrischzell.

Wendelstein (Mountain in front) behind Bayrischzell.

At Aurach i turned right and passed Fischbachau. (very good for cackes and pies). A nice cury road follows the Leitzach river then.

    Leitzach

    closer look

    view back.
Nice thing nearby - at this place it is not common to stop - so the next motorbike came - slowed down and asked if i need help. -- Nice act. I showed him that every thing is ok - on he went.

via Irschenberg - Miesbach -- reached this - close to "Bad Tölz" -- 30 km to go -- who will win -- rain or .... me.

3 km to go -- close to home - rain didn't catch me anymore. (btw - this is one of my jogging and bike tracks).

Bike - behind bike - -Blomberg mountain - on the right -- Benediktenwand mountain.

Next days -- heavy rain --
Tip -- best weather warning for Germany -- Deutscher Wetterdienst -- Link

    to be continued ....

    have fun
