Brother Buzz rolls in w/ a fresh KLX250 in the truck. Joey sets to it for a quick re-jet job
Somehow-- against all odds, Hells, and Harlem ingestion-- a Saturday ride gets organamized.
17 riders head North w/ Sanjoh at the helm. Guess what we found? Water!
There's a quarter-mile line of bikes back there. This was pretty much a parade with mudholes
Eloy's non-patented GPS performance cradle, working like a champ. Note the eco-friendly/sustainable vibration damping components
Bill contemplates what 'dry' used to feel like
Pack of gnarlies sitting on their bikes looking at each other. "WhoTF's leading this parade?!"
At another (....) turnaround, the King of All Manfu surveys his domain
Jerry takes advantage of the horse-pass to break out tools and tighten his bark-buster.
The horse-folk were mighty appreciative of our kill-engines consideration
Mike and elJorgio. El-J did heroically on his new 990. Great spirit, Jorge
Scott don't need no stinkin' gas...
Pig Pilot Master schools the young Pig Pilot acolyte: "Dude-- your tires suck."
(no FEE was paid to DDS for the privilege of using their logo here. See my people)
I'm not sure, but Bill may just be getting even w/ Eloy here for something
There Will Be Laughter
The appreciative audience
John takes us up further north headed twds the GA line. Up round the St Mary's River (IIRC) we find some higher elevation hardwood areas with nice trails, a little less water, and nice land. All too short and too late in the day really to explore much more. Hook up with some more Jax guys and make the en masse run back to camp. I was glad, as my tweaked right wrist from Friday swamps was starting to swell and tighten. Knew that would be rectified in camp
Back 'home' to find Inept and Buzz with the kebab assembly line in action.
Damn good grub, boys-- and sorely appreciated
Adam from Gainesville is there supervising and augmenting Inept's newfound Single-Malt Scotch education (started by BPSBobBPS the night before)
Grub done, Inept sets to rolling everybody in camp for shots of anything.
Scott gives a little precious Beck's to the Inept One
Really now-- who could turn down such a sad-sack face as this?
The firepit BS session was grand-- lotsa belly laughs, some ADV secrets were decoded ("Happy the WTF??!"), we debated the relative merits of Abuse Rock vs Rap vs Polka, and pledged to invade Scribe's place in Vegas next year for a SweatfestWest. One of the Scotts from Scottcamp brought over some pyrex smokeware which was perfectly super of him
Inept contemplates the alien face staring out of the cut firewood at him....
Great time folks. This is one of the big reasons we all do these events. Fire/agents/laughs/bullshit/more laughs
Sunday dawns with the world having been made safe from Harlem.
John and Paula are already striking camp-- they had the long ride back to S FL to tackle.
Morning coffees with me mangs
Tony still has a touch of out-with-the-wild-buffalo about him
Rich's stickers were a hit with the crowd
As i'm getting ready to head out for Tallahassee w/ Scott, the Fleas and Joey and some Jax fellas (Sam and Kaos) head out on the final ride of BQF. We say our goodbyes, see-ya-at-the-nexts etc
Great group of folks. Old pals are always fun, and new faces adds tons to the growing Sandbox contingent. Well done everybody.
Scott and i take off shortly after, but not before i show Jerry my version of a camp-road 180. You may or may not have seen pictures of this stuntin'
(Jerry, thanks bro for making lightning-quick work out of re-shaping my shifter )
Scott and i head NW out of Osceola to hook up with his excellent mix route back west to TLH
Lots of leaseland/FS roads at first but once west of I-75 it's just fantastic ranchland, and lots of dirt
Some of the views are just killer
and some of the views could be killer....
we get to Tallahassee and i'm beat-- ass and throttle wrist have had enough, so i part w/ Scott and head for the Motel 6. Publix has food and beer, the TV works and shows me parts of the Stupor Bowl, shower and shave happens and life seems pretty damned good.
The next day it all starts over again. The road is life
Dust. Wind. Dude.
I'm confused....Did Buzz get a KLX too??
Who has the XT250?? Thoughts on it? There's a 2008 model on Craigslist down here for $2500
So is the tag office . My master plan is to slip in the KLX, the DRZ, maybe another KLR, KTM, bla bla bla... then hit 'em with another KDX220 and go
Yeah, it's an '09 KLX250- a delightful little dualsport
Great job on the pics and report, Mug.
Rich, I would skip the XT250, if its for you to ride. Not enough suspension.
...and when he only needs a shot glass full = cheap date
Exactly...and the wheels/hubs are weak too. If you want a small dualsport like that the Kawasaki Super Sherpa may be a better option, even though it lacks suspension also.
Yep, what Jerry said on the XT 250 just pass on by.. I have one for my wife, no real suspension and no way to fix it...
I use it as punishment for certain friends who are too lazy to get their own bikes fixed
Rich, that kind of cash will buy you MUCH more dualsport than that XT. I did everything I could to mine. I never really needed more power, but was constantly want better suspension.
Great pics Mug!!
I shoulda jumped on this one for a quick ride for future purchase knowledge, just sayin'
The LC4 is so choice.
If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.
I took one for a short spin once, and that was the shakingest thing ever. Its like an earthquake underneath you. I could see how ones toes would go numb after a few miles from the vibrations in the pegs. :eek1
BTW, Manfu, your chain looks really tight in that pic.
Just go down to your local Home Depot and sit on the paint shaker a well deserved nickname
John, have you checked Paula's 350 to see if the 'T-vent mod' was ever done? It sounded like that might have been causing her the stall issues in the water
Lots-o-hate on the XT - Guess I'll mark that potential off the list
We are not hating on the XT, its great beginner bike for people with short legs. But you have owned a DRZ before, and you will probably not be happy with an XT. Why not just buy another DRZ if you want a DS bike? They are reliable and can be had cheap.
