On the same trip I'm currently on (am in S Peru ATM), I was in Oaxaca Mexico and hadn't looked at the date or paid attention for a week or more because I was having such a great time in Mexico.
Suddenly realized that I had only 19 days to make it to Carti Panama to catch the sailboat Stahlratte for the run to Colombia.
19 days....from one day away from the Mexico/Guat. border.
and it SUCKED. Johnnydarock is absolutely right.
Enjoy Mexico. You could spend a year there riding at not see it all.
I'm in. And agree that 300 miles average per day thru MX and CA will be quite a challenge. Remember to slow down for topes!
Loved the Baja report , so I'm sure this will be good, no matter how many days you take!
Fortunately y'all will clearly pass as locals. lol
Have a blast!
Made it to Texas which is nice. A brisk 60 degree and blue bird sunny.
Dallas at 3:30 thinking we would miss rush hour??? Not a chance. Gridlock bumper to bumper. There really wasn’t another option.
Oh well. The nice weather is a plus..
Rolling into Houston in 15 minutes. Long day In the truck. 13 hours and 900 miles. Tomorrow 370 miles on bikes to Brownsville.
Can’t wait to get going.
Tonight? A full spread with our friends Garth and Kristine at their house. Cheers y’all.
Love any ride with the KLR!!
Leaving to off load the bikes from Garth’s.
Fabulous stay and hospitality. We cannot thank you enough.
why the Canadian flag on the one bike? why not an American flag?
In...............what could go wrong?
I'm in. Ride safe and ENJOY the culture. The Mayan ruins are pretty interesting if time allows.
Obviously following. Hoping for nothing but the best!
Arrived in Brownsville early with plenty of time for food and to check into the hotel before dark.
389 very easy miles averaging 75 mph which is probably going to be our fastest mileage push on this trip.
It started out dropping the trailer at our new buddy Mark’s house less than 10 miles from Garth and Kristine’s house.
The weather was perfect and roads incredible.
Easy traffic flow to do our shake down ride.
The bikes and riders performed perfectly.
We depart to the border early since we have a big day ahead of us tomorrow.
Canadian flags were from a ride John and I did from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay last year and plastered the bikes with stickers. We haven’t found US stickers at random places yet but if we have to we will order them.
We plan to get as many Central American country stickers for the bikes on this trip as well and will order any we cannot find when we get home.
We had some killer Texas BBQ for dinner. It was over the top good.
My bike tipped over the 9000 mark.
I'm following and hoping you all have a great trip and safe travels!
450 miles, a flat tire and made it into Tuxpan at dark. Big day and more to come tomorrow morning.
I sure hope you pinche gringos are going to atleast visit Palenque & Tikal!
Wait 19 days out and back???
NFW or your just iron butting the whole every day, yuck. This is unrealistic, spend those 19 days and really explore Mexico. 300 miles a day on a non-cuota roads...no way. More like 150 miles a day in many places.
And ridding in the dark, just to get somewhere, has a high probability hurt someone by the end.
