At Freeman Waterhole, they sell Pie Face pies and sausage rolls.
They have a Lamb sausage roll that goes alright, not a bad cup of coffee either.
Not A pie, think she said it was a Turkish tart?
I was unfortunate enough to have to buy produce from the Bemboka Pie shop twice recently.
The first purchase was a "breakfast" pastry thingo supposedly with sausage, egg, and bacon in pastry. There was indeed a stingy half-sausage in loads of average pastry, but zero egg or bacon. Describing this on the second visit merely elicited a description of what should have been in it. Wow.
On that second visit I got a beef pepper pie. Disappointing is the word I would choose to describe it.
This once great pie shop is now officially shithouse.
Had a very similar experience at the bakery in Stratford (Vic) on Friday. Bought a "steak" pie and a pasty. The bloke with me threw the pie away in disgust, and the pastie was full of some sort of mush
inside a very average pastry. That's one off my list of once reliable bakeries.
Today I stopped at the café/grocery store at Wisemans Ferry, where I had an excellent sausage roll. It had firm and slightly crispy pastry wrapped around a substantial amount of meaty filling, which was slight moist (oil from the meat?) and was well seasoned. 4 out of 5 stars.
The coffee was also good.
Borrow a chalk from them next time and tell them it's not Sheppards pie...
I'd heard about Bemboka myself, made sure to stop and buy the Pepper pie about four weeks ago... I won't be going back. Paid premium prices and received sub average pie.
There is a whole other thread dedicated to places with shitty pies... Just say'n.
Another vote for the Wild Rye Bakery in Pambula. Their three cheese and spinach pastie is, as always, the best I've had. And tried their seafood pie today, contained at least three scallops with roe in a splendid mornay / roux filling, proper short crust pastry - unfknblvbly good!
Bindoon Bakehaus. Biker friendly with ample bike specific parking bays and a visor cleaning station. They do a great selection of pies from classics through to something a bit fancy, plenty of sweet options, excellent coffee and good service.
Great pie today, Blackbutt Bakery
Dobinsons in Canberra.
Pretty Good Pies, and a great selection of really nice cakes.
Located at Bunda Street, just near the intersection with Petrie Street, is the main premises, with another outlet inside the Canberra Centre outside Big W.
I'll 2nd that. Was in Canberra recently and walked out of that shop with waaay too many goodies. Great sausage rolls too
Not just one bakery, but several:
