This is my first ride report. Please don’t shit on me if I don’t get it correct.

Current time. Sitting in the rain in Northern Thailand.

Let’s start. I’m Canadian. I fell in love with Thailand in 1992. Met my wife in 1996. Haven’t looked back.

I started traveling when I was 14. I’m not sure what it’s like to live without a suitcase of some sort.

    Blah blah blah...

This report will take some time as I’m looking back at the past year(s).

I quit my high dollar job a year a go because I wasn’t happy and it was wrecking my marriage. My wife is precious to me so something had to change. She is my rock too lean on.

    More to come.

I hadn’t been to Canada for a few years and my grandmother is now in a care home with Alzheimer’s so I decided we should book a flight to Vancouver. I looked at renting a bike but it’s much too expensive.

I contacted James Tucker and he said he was ok to help find me a bike. In L.A. Ok. I’m not sure about this but I’ll hang my balls out and see what happens...

James found me a bike and set everything up.

For the record this report is inspired by him and @rtwpaul amongst others. These two guys are an inspiration to anyone who rides a bike

Ed rode one of my bikes to our other house. Can’t find a picture of that. He helped me a lot as I would have had to figure out how to move the bike 450km and get back.

After we hired a local moving company and shifted the current rental house into the house we own

At this point my head was spinning. My plan was to quit my job, clear out the rental house and relax at the house I own, fly to Canada and visit my grandmother and be happy. Instead I’m running like hell to get things done before catching a flight to Vancouver while packing bike gear. Hmm, sometimes I forget to calm down...

We arrived in Vancouver and I booked a room near the airport. I don’t like long flights anymore so thought just make it easy. The next day we would stay at my daughters place.

In the morning we slept in and relaxed before heading to my daughters small place.

I needed to organize my stuff to head to L.A. so I turned my daughter living room into a refugee camp.

Got our crap sorted out and jumped on a plane to California. No clue what to expect just go.

US customs is in the Vancouver airport now so you clear customs there. The customs guy looked at the X-ray of our bags and asked if we are going to ride a bike. I said yes I’m purchasing a bike in L.A. as it’s cheaper than Canada and we will ride around North America a bit. He asked if I would sell the bike at the end of the trip. Umm, I haven’t actually thought that far a head I told him. He smiled and said have a safe trip

James picked us up at the airport and stoped so we could buy some food. It was late by the time we got to his place but I was bouncing to see my new bike.

Ya baby! Super Tenere. Ye haa!

I spent the next day getting the bike prepairded to go. James helped me a lot. I brought too much so I put a box in the mail back to my daughters house in Vancouver.

Bike loaded and ready to go

I was tired at this point and James and Colleens place is super cool so I asked if we could stay an extra day. No problem. Perfect!

We left Claremont and headed that way. It seemed like a good plan. Did I mention I never bought a map? I’m Canadian so everything heads north right? (I do have a gps and that’s my primary navigation when it works)

My plan was to camp for two nights then get a hotel room so the wife could recharge then camp again and get a room etc. It seemed like a good plan.

We rocked into Mamoth park and thought this is nice. Stopped at a hotel and asked the price. Umm, I’ve been outside of North America for some time. Rode into the national park and found a nice spot to camp instead.

We had a good sleep but we might need to change some of our camping gear. I bought what I could find quickly that was compact and light weight and figure it out as we go.

I bought this small cooker set in Vancouver. It turned out to be my best friend over the next couple of months

I should introduce my lovely wife. Her English nickname is Patty or P Pat to the Thai people.

She’s followed me all over the world for the past 23 years and never seems to get upset with all the stupid shit I do.
