I really enjoy following this thread many thanks, my hope is you do another. I had to laugh out aloud on occasion as I too also have a Thai wife and yes they can make great partners to be sure it you are as lucky as you have been and I am, I do however know a few that are nightmares. I too have built a house, this one being just outside of Sukhothai ready for my retirement mid-2020. I just love this relatively simple life and the people you get to share it with in this country, the big cities are however another story, at 53 I am mostly past all the hassle. I am riding up your way just before Christmas if you are around I would appreciate the opportunity to meet for a beer if you have time. Your knowledge of Thailand and the expat thing would be interesting and very useful. Either way, keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing how the new farm turns out, every day in Thailand has its own story I know when building. Be good my friend and thank you for sharing.

There are my bikes and the house although its finished now. I hope to hear from you. O I am British but try not to hold that against me.

Nice setup. Big city’s suck anywhere in the world. Not everyday is good in Thailand. In fact yesterday sucked ass.

Today however is a new day.

Patty currently wants to kill me. Unless I take her back to Laos. Death or Laos? Simple decision really...

We should be back to Northern Thailand in a week or so. Send me a PM

I only came across this RR yesterday so you have successfully kept me out of my work for a sinful amount of time, thank you! Just love it!

If ever you change your mind about coming down to SAfrica.....

The border crossing into Laos that I plan to use is 1 1/2 hours north. I did the smart thing and drove 4 hours south.

Patty very calmly told me I just passed a restaurant. Bugger! I forgot to feed her again. I pulled into the first place that looked like it had food. Patty was upset and made trouble with the owners

We rolled into Chiang Mai. The reason to head to the big city was to meet fellow inmate @GregDavidL. Its his first trip to Thailand and he only has a couple weeks. We met for a beer then walked to the night market for diner.

Greg and his son have bought a couple of KLRs and are getting set up to do some riding together. Father and son on KLRs, how cool is that? I did mention the practical aspect of used milk crates on a KLR.

It was super cool to meet you Greg. I hope you enjoy your time in Thailand and look forward to a ride report when you and your son get the KLRs ready.

She’s been working hard on the coffee farm and needs a break so I’m taking her for a cup of tea before Laos.

And she’s still working on the shot

Patty's shoulder doing better? Did it resolve itself? I suffered last year with that condition and really felt bad for her. Hope to meet you over there in Thailand at some point.

Her shoulder is better now. She still has some discomfort but is able to dig on her farm so she’s happy Patty. The excersises that the chiropractor in Manitoba suggested helped her a lot and she still does them.

Patty has bean obsessed with her coffee farm. She needs a break so I took her to Doi Mae Salong, a tea plantation area in northern Thailand. It has great views and some great bike roads. It’s been around 2 years since I was here last. Hmm, you can’t stop progress?

We rolled into town as the fog was setting in. Tried to get some photos but the weather disagreed so not the best effort

In the morning we woke to heavy fog so slept a bit longer. After an attempt at breakfast we departed in partial fog

My plan was to take Patty to Mae Fa Luang. A Queens flower project. We hit heavy fog. Along the way we passed a young Thai guy on a Suzuki kitted out with dry bags and sandels hanging off the back. Gave him a wave as we passed.

Turns out it’s a special event at the flower garden and they won’t let us ride thru as I’ve done in the past. I divert and take a wrong road. We end up at a dead end so stop for coffee. The young guy on the Suzuki stops and joins us. I ask him where he is going and he’s says just looking around. I ask if he’s heard about advrider website but it doesn’t translate to Thai

We say good travels to the young guy and I get us back on track.

No one reads this site so I can say what I want and no one will come? Road 1149 is the flavour of the day. It runs the boarder of Thailand and Myanmar and is one of the best boarder roads in Thailand.

We climb out of the fog and it lives up to my expectations. Yee ha! Bugger! Patty tried to jump off the bike. Seriously woman? It’s only coffee
