I loaded the bike and prepared to launch. Then my niece showed up with fresh baked croissants so we enjoyed a nice breakfast with the family. Eventually we said our goodbyes and launched.

Once we were rolling Patty asked me what the plan is? I told her: Turn right. Look for flowers. I’m tired of the plan and need to relax a bit. It’s been two years since I quit my job and the past five months I’ve had more work than you can shake a stick at. Who would of thought you could work so much without having a job?

We rolled into a bigger small town somewhere in the Black Forest and I knew I better find food soon. I asked Patty to keep a look out for restaurants. She said just follow that guy on the fat bike, he looks hungry. Sure enough he led us straight to a walking street with cafes and restaurants. I pulled up on the side walk beside his Harley and said thanks. He looked at me kind of strange. Patty got off the bike and told me “travel smart. think with your belly”. I talked to the German guy on the Harley for a bit. Nice guy. He’s going to ride Route 66 this fall on a rental bike.

We had a nice lunch then road back roads until I needed gas for the bike.

After I spotted a gasthus that looked ok and we got a room. Overall fantastic first day back on the bike.

The Great Wall of Thailand is currently relaxing. The rain has started in northern Thailand and the dirt needs to settle more before we build on it.

In the mean time Patty did manage to plant several hundred more coffee trees while I was away figuring out how to pay for it

In the morning we had the free breakfast from the guesthouse then went back to the room. This place was awesome. We need to spend more time in the Black Forest. But today I’m turning right.

I loaded the bike and we headed south. Patty needs some history. But first she needs a flower

We got into Lausanne late in the day, got some food and crashed for the night.

Lausanne is special for Thai people because King Rama 9 of Thailand grew up and was educated there. There is a small pavilion dedicated to him so we went to have a look.

King Rama 9 played here as a boy and later with his own children

With the photos taken of King Rama 9’s pavilion and the history lesson over we headed out of town.

We spent some time in traffic and Patty hit me on the head eventually. This is what she looks like when I forget to feed her

While we ate I came up with a plan and booked a Airbnb for tonight. After plugging along in traffic we hit some hills so I pulled over for a snack and happy Patty returned

We enjoyed the hills a bit and eventually crossed into Italy. I already have a room booked in Arona so found a suitable spot.

And prepared a fresh garden salad with smoked salmon and sweet chillies. Ok, I didn’t bring a bowl so you have to use your imagination

We made it into Arona late and found our Airbnb. Then some flowers for Patty
    FECCD31D-9274-4D85-909C-BDA2EF01C7B0.jpeg

Then headed to say hi to Mickey and his mom. Mickey remembered I like beer and chose a couple of local beers for us

We departed around 8:00am and I think we got back to the room around 11:00pm. It was a long day and we pretty much passed out when we hit the bed.

We woke up early, had coffee and a snack and departed early. @flyingdutchman177 invited us over for a beer so the focus today is to get to his place. We hit big traffic all day and the ride wasn’t much fun until we got closer.

We arrived late in the day and got a sample view from Ed’s place.

Ed feed us beer and wine and cooked us diner. We talked late into the night catching up on past events

08:00am. My phone alarm is ringing. Patty said let’s go. What? Oh ya. Time to get going. I really want to roll over and go back to sleep but Ed told the owners of his Airbnb we were coming and they invited us on a day ride in the Alps. Complete strangers inviting complete strangers to ride together. Can’t say no to this.

09:00am, it’s a beautiful day and Patty is ready to go

We made it about 5 minutes and pulled over by another big bike on the side of the road. It was a friend of the Airbnb owners. He took the lead for a while then we stopped for a coffee

The roads were great and eventually we stopped for lunch. It rained really hard while we had lunch then the sky cleared for the second half of the day. The pass we rode after lunch was spectacular. 9E7A0ADF-E33E-4AC1-97E5-D38AA928A7C0.jpeg

After we made it down the hills we stopped for ice cream and said fair well to Giuseppe.

Back at Ed’s place Patty cooked for us and we enjoyed more beer and wine late into the night. Fantastic day with great people

We slept well and eventually came back to life. Ed asked if we wanted to go somewhere. I felt like relaxing so Ed went for a hike and Patty and I relaxed and explored the small town. Patty didn’t get much flowers yesterday so the hunt was on

It was great catching up with Ed. The ride with his Airbnb owners was a bonus. Now I want some time alone with Patty to relax, so I booked a place in a bigger town up the road.
