Because I’m a canuckelhead I decided I should see just how rugged the Dolomites are. So I picked a road that looked like an interesting dead end and set off with Patty. The road went up and up and up. It was by far the steepest, narrowest tightest switch backs I’ve ever done.

Not the best picture of the mountains but you get the idea
    5DF5B3B9-08B8-4C95-B9BF-E41288C4CF11.jpeg

Near the end of the road Patty wanted a picture so she went for a hike
    A853212B-50F1-41D0-B088-1551DD66DB89.jpeg

And eventually realized she couldn't get down
    FB16E1AC-4489-41B7-901E-FB6ED0D28F9C.jpeg

The sky started to darken and I thought oh bugger. I found a place to shelter as the sky let loose

It rained hard for about 10 minutes then eased off so I decided we should get down while we could. The rain made the ride down the tight steep switch backs that much more fun. At the end it took us 3 hours to cover the 20 km up the hill and 20 km back down. Note to self: 1200cc Super Tenere is way to big for this shit.

We got back to our Airbnb just as the sky really decided it doesn’t like bikers and it rained real hard for the rest of the day and thru the night.

    Patty’s flower of the day

The weather forecast said clear in the am and heavy rain after lunch. After yesterday’s hill climbing effort I decided it would be best to have a laundry day. I’m not saying Patty stinks but one of us is ripe. I spent the morning washing our biker gear and put it out in the sun to dry. Patty gave me crap for not taking her for a ride. I told her It’s going to rain at 2:45pm so she’ll appreciate her clean dry clothes tomorrow. I took her for a 5 kilometre walk up and down the hills in the small town and told her we better get back before the rain comes.

At the end of the day it looked like this

Bugger weather.com! Well, at least we smell better

    Current thought

It’s ok to be gay. I’m a modern guy. It doesn’t bother me.

But E-Bikes in the mountains? Seriously guys/gals/whatever, put your spandex on and peddle your bicycle. Or put a engine between your legs and stop pretending.

But you spandex warriors should stop blocking traffic if you don’t want to die. I clearly see I’m not the only one on a motorized vehicle getting annoyed

Ok, let’s see where I’m at. I’m kind of getting bored of updating this.

With clean cloths and clear sky I decided we should do a short day loop. Except I forgot it’s saturday, in the summer, in the rocks.

We haven’t seen many waterfalls so far. I expected to see more. Gotcha!

Lots of traffic. Found a lake

I don’t remember the name of this town. Actually I suffer from CRS(can’t remember shit). It’s ok because it makes every day interesting. Not seen in this photo are the construction cranes. Paradise about to be lost

    Patty tried getting the shot

Eventually we stopped for ice cream. With a view

While we were having ice cream Patty asked me “why do we always have to go north? Northern Canada, Northern Thailand, Northern Laos, Northern Italy?”. I told her because when I was a young man starting out the old guy teaching me said “go north young man, that’s where the money is!”. She said “your not young now”. Well, I’m Canadian, home is north anywhere in the world

06:15am. I’ve come up with a plan while I was sleeping. I gave Patty a squeeze and said pack your shit we’re going east! She rolled over and farted in my general direction. That’s not nice. Maybe I squeezed her to hard? Anyway, we need to leave our Airbnb today. I’ll make coffee and look at google to figure out which way is east

Google maps told me there is a resort town to the east. Umm, no. There’s a small lake a bit further. Patty likes small lakes. Airbnb?, yup, perfect, got a room. I cooked breakfast then loaded Patty on the bike and we were off at the crack of 08:57.

One last look at the dollar mites

We made are way eastish on a north south zig zag pattern. Eventually I had to stop. This bike needs a bigger gas tank and more space for food

    Not this lake

Eventually I told Patty “welcome to northern Slovenia!”. I’m not sure she got the humour so I stopped to look at the resort town. It’s nice actually.

This local beer wasn’t the best though so I left it behind.

We got off the main road onto some goat tracks. I stopped to make sure garmin wasn’t leading me astray again. It said all good so we carried on. It was awesome. And we have a room at the small lake somewhere. Brilliant!

We got to the small lake. Umm, hmmm.... apparently I need to do a bit more research when I’m deciding where to go at 06:30 in the morning.

We found our Airbnb. They had garden furniture

It turns out Bled is one of the top tourist destinations in Slovenia during the summer. And we hit it on a weekend. Oh well. I took Patty for a walk and found a cool wine bar to relax and watch the crowds shuffle by

We found a nice restaurant and had a massive diner. Might as well make the best of the situation

We woke up late, had a bite to eat and departed the Airbnb. South. That’s the ticket!

    Fuck it. I’m going north.

Patty decided she wants to be a logger

We stopped too long and the rain came. Eventually we stopped at the resort town. Had a nice diner, walked a bit and crashed early

That region of Slovenia is beautiful. You'll enjoy it. Try to visit Mangart or ride over Vrsic pass. A lot of switchbacks but it's worth it. IMG_20190415_101019.jpg

We did the pass in the rain. Very nice area. I’d like to do it again on a clear day. And we found Slovenian people to be very friendly.

Austria's highest pass...looks like it was worth the ticket. This link has a pretty nice fly through and there is even a short clip of a motorcycle entering a left-hand curve. https://www.grossglockner.at/gg/en/index

I told Patty we need to go down. She told me I need to harden up
    7E6BFC45-07F2-46E0-B55E-AC0BCD0E2E3A.jpeg

Her phone ran out of memory and she had to stop taking photos. We made it half way down the hill and I pulled over to put on rain gear. At the bottom of the hill I needed gas. We had passed a small town that had a couple hotels and the future was looking bleak. I grabbed a bottle of wine at the gas station and did a u-turn back to the hotels. I found a room and we enjoyed the rest of the afternoon at the hotel

In the morning we carried on after a nice breakfast at the hotel.

The road was good. Some nice water falls. The road was really good. Patty hit me on the head. Bugger, time to stop. I found a coffee shop
