I came up with a place an hour away. Patty stared at me in silence. I took a “short cut” to the place and we were there in 50 minutes. Man some of the country roads in southern Germany are good. I need to spend more time here.

I had no idea what was in the town I just new the area should be good.

Large one bedroom, two bathroom apartment with full kitchen and parking. 58 euros

    And a great balcony

The town has a nice walking street. Ice cream, beer and wine time

Sometimes you have to believe it will work out. I booked the room for a second night

The next day we chilled in the small town.

    Lots of flowers for Patty

We had passed a closed jewelry shop yesterday that had a bracelet in the window that Patty liked. They were open today and she decided she didn’t like it. I suggested a pair of ear rings but she didn’t like the hooks. The guy said no problem and replaced the hooks to a better style while we waited

I picked a nicer restaurant for diner. They had flowers

In the morning it was time to get back to Rastatt to give my nephew in law a hand. Google maps said two hours so I doubled it and told Patty it would be a easy day. We launched and I realized I had forgot to put gas in the bike. The nearest gas station was behind us so I reluctantly did a u-turn to the station and put 20.5 litres in the tank. I need to stop doing that. The bonus was we passed the vineyards and I wanted a photo. I ignored the no entry sign and went up the hill. Patty hopped off and I lined the bike up for the photo. It was awesome! Until the kickstand sank in the dirt and over it went. Fully loaded. With the tank at full volume. Of course it would on the last riding day of the trip

Patty took this photo after I picked the bike up. Sometimes you just have to walk away

    Back to the story...

I managed to turn the two hour ride into 8. We arrived to my brother in laws place a bit later than expected. My nephew in law Oliver handed me a beer as I got off the bike and I went upstairs to see the renovations. He’s been busy the past 5 weeks and the next step is a big one.

His father was there to guide him and give him crap. He made Oliver wear his safety gear

Hard work and too many laughs. And good German beer. I’m really happy to be able to help him for his and my nieces future

Oliver’s father came over to inspect our work. He gave Oliver a high five. On the back of the head. Then invited us over for diner and drinks.

Patty cooked some Thai fried rice and made Oliver carry the large bowl to his parents place. I told her not to do anything silly when we get there

In the morning Oliver brought fresh bread and baguette for breakfast. My niece said her face hurts from laughing too much. My phone went bing bong. Online check in available. Seriously? It can’t possibly be 6 weeks already. I need to clean the bike and pack up. And my passport is out of pages, I’m not sure if they will let me on the plane this time. My brother in law sent a message. He will pick us up at 2:00pm to take us to the airport. I need to run

A full passport may be an annoyance, but it's also a sign of an interesting and full life.

We got to the Frankfurt airport early. I’m not sure if they will let me on the plane with my full passport. I don’t have a back up plan for this. It should be ok. Please?

They let me check in. Patty said seriously? What? I got on the internet and booked a room close to the Canadian embassy in Bangkok. You need to believe it will work.

We had a rather crappy flights. Sometimes it goes that way. The Thai customs gave me grief about my passport but let me in. First thing in the morning I was at the Canadian embassy. Simple process (maybe I did this before).

Patty asked if it was ok. Ya, pick up the new passport in 4 weeks. That’s right bitches, I’m stuck in Thailand for 4 weeks. Boo hoo for me. Ok the passport should come in 10 days but I’m calling it 4 weeks

Patty loves trouble. She’s a magnet for it. Yesterday she wanted to take some food home for her mother. But she didn’t want it in styrofoam plastic. Some confusion. The owner of the restaurant came. Patty explained that Thailand has too much waste plastic. He listened and went away.

Take away food wrapped in banana leafs held together with bamboo tooth picks instead of elastic bands. Seriously?

I love the owner of that restaurant. Please use less plastic if you can

I wish banana leaves were more commonly available in North Idaho. Elegant solution.
