We have discovered a possible new scam on ADV Rider. You post a WTB, and you receive a PM referring you to an alleged third party who has this part. It's all email addresses.

If you receive one of these messages, please report them immediately.

We have banned several for sending the same PM. The PMs all come from users that have zero posts.

All of the PMs end with, "you can thank my later."

We are also trying to leave profile messages on the profile pages of the banned scammers so that a bit of due diligence will make other users aware.

The scammers are getting smarter. We have had reports that members are getting the message that ends with 'you can thank me later.' They contact and the scammer has photos and speaks intelligently about the parts or gear. They insist on being paid via friends and family. If you have a WTB ad and are contacted, be sure to only communicate via Adv PMs (conversations), as we ban them as soon as we find out; if you think it may be legit and want to pay via friends and family, insist on paying AFTER the item is received.

If you have ANY doubt at all, report the PM. We will look into it and ban if it is a scammer.

The scammers are getting smarter again. The last inmate to report a PM, the PM did not include, "you can thank me later." The inmate did not realize he had been scammed until communication stopped. He did a google search on the image and it came up on other forums.

Try to stay a step ahead of the scammers. Don't send money to zero post noobs, be especially leery of someone that only wants to communicate via email (PMing does not work after a ban.) If they send you photos of the item, do a google search of the item. That search may tell you what you need to know.
