Yep, we used to do that type of ride all the time. Alot to be said for it. Stop where you want, camp where you want, drink where you want. And, the best views are never had from a motel room anyways.

Windrat, Herrhelmet and me in the Utah backcountry a few years ago. :freaky

I'm gonna hate to see the 800 go away. Hopefully the Husky can hang on some of your SCAR-y rides.

Don't be fooled. Fudgy rides his big bike like a small bike. And the first time I met him was at Starbucks!

Well, I started riding my KLR on longer trips in 1999, about 5 years before I found ADV, so I guess I'm IN, too.

Plus, I just picked up a newer big bike.... Gotta keep up with the riding buds, ya know...

Great concept for a new thread!

Well, I guess I sorta fit the bill. 410 lbs, 750 twin. I am currently in the process of switching to Pirelli Scorpion Trail tires, and adding 2 teeth to the rear sprocket. My disadvantage off road is the 180/55-17 tire on the rear. I have to keep it aired up pretty close to full to avoid banging the cast wheel on rocks.

My previous bike, a 1983 Honda XL600R, would be considered small here, but I used to love dabbling in small bike territory like nasty singletrack and sand dunes. I needed something that would carry my wife and myself (over 400 lbs combined weight) over mountain passes without complaining, so I looked for the smallest bike I could find, and ended up with the Aprilia.

I am looking forward to hearing about techniques to take my semi-big Adv bike to places no Dorsoduro has been before. With a little bit of practice, I may even be able to follow some of you on GS's!

the intention is not to exclude smaller bikes.

the dual sport dirt bikes have their place in the sun. big bikes are for long distances. some can do both on a single bike.

basicaly, this is to provide opportunity for adv riders to come out more often and be an active part of the community.

    btw, i have scarfucks t-shirts for sale.....:D

    just kidding!
