You don’t ride a bicycle on the road do you?
The aggressive drivers will get you because they misjudge the width of their vehicle. They're not specifically aiming at you. The distracted drivers are the ones that make me nervous cause it's like a golden bb: it's random chance whether you're 'in their way' or not.
Either way, I refuse to live my life scared. I keep riding despite the bullying I'm receiving on the roads.
I understand your point, Gummee, but I am not scared for me. My death would affect more than just me.
At any rate, either I deal with lunatics on the road, or snakes and booby traps on the trail (i.e., piano wire at neck height, the glass lined kite string at neck height which has also been found strung across some roads here in San Diego, rock piles in strategic locations around blind turns, etc)
Yes, I do.
My experience and observations are that the a-hole driver really isn't much of an actual threat because they're highly attuned to your presence. They intend to miss you with their "punishment pass", therefore don't need to be evaded. This kind of driver is fairly uncommon.
It's the distracted and impaired drivers that are the threat because they're simply not aware of your presence and must be actively avoid by evasive manouvers. This kind of driver is extremely common.
Naturally this doesn't take into account the actual crazy person trying to hit someone, but they're exceedingly rare.
Windmill, I'm not so sure. I see where you're coming from, but I think on some of the backroads where it's just you and that one aggressive driver, it may turn out that they don't intend to miss. I am well aware of the punishment pass, but there are times where I've had people smiling at me as they try to run me off the road, whether from behind or turning left in front of me.
As far as distracted and/or impaired drivers, agreed. Still makes me wonder what people get pulled over for here in CA because I see people doing stuff all the time that is dangerous to themselves and others behind the wheel. So by the time I do see someone pulled over, perhaps it was for something truly over the top.
Unless they misjudge the punishment pass and put a mirror into the back of your head.
Anyone who considers doing anything with a vehicle other than just driving it is no better than someone who points a gun at someone. Just consider that.
You ain't the boss of me.
Don't act like you've never had sex in one.
We here to talk about bat shit crazy ex wives?
Brilliant!, you have found the one spot in the road where you can interfere with traffic going both directions!

I suppose it's an effective way to keep cars from violating 3 foot laws.
