Mark just switched hosting servers for his site - they should all be back up and loading faster than ever.

In fact, over the next few weeks, I'll be swapping all my images to another server, so they might be wonky for a little bit.

    Thanks Leg.

If you do a search in ride reports for threads I started, you'll see a bunch more stuff. Have fun, and thanks for taking the time to read this report.

I'm decommissioning the chopperbruce.com server soon - that's where the pics for this ride have been located. I painstakingly have gone through this report, and have updated the image source for the new server. And added quite a few new pics.

It will load much, much faster for y'all on broadband.

Bruce: Thanks for fixing the links.

Nothing is worse than a bunch of [IMG] boxes instead of cool photographs.

I just posted this report to a bunch of guys I know.

    BBZ, teeds, rhyolite, leeo45...... -

When I saw how many folks were still looking at ithis report, I didn't have the heart to disembowel it by pulling my image server.

I transferred the pics to baldy and they should be there for as long as ADVRider lives :thumb

And thanks for reading this old tome.... :freaky

Should be a great weekend then.

Thanks for all the travels and reporting. An inspiration for some of us still corraled in cloth covered cubes.

    Thanks.

A 250 would do fine - but there are some long stretches of desert that *could* benefit from the cruise speed and carrying ability of a bigger thumper. A 450 class machine with a six speed would be perhaps the perfect bike for the west, IMHO.

Pretty much any 400-650 class thumper is fantastic for the ride. Bigger bikes, like the 950 ADV, would be a handful in certain sections, but still rideable, all depending on your skill level.

There are some stretches of deep sand, endless miles of deep, rutted sage roads, and some steep and rocky 4wd roads. Plus, if it's been raining, the incredibly sticky, yet also slick mud is alway there in a jiffy.

    Long story short, run what you have. If it's a KLR650, KLX650, DR650, XR650L, XR650R, XR400, DR400, KLX450, TE450/510, 450/525 EXC, LC4, etc......it'll do just fine.
