Mark, what happened to your pictures? I see Bruce's but not yours...
Wow!:eek1 :eek1 Just finished reading this epic tail! I'm new on the site so bear with me. Thanks for taing the time to post all the pics, etc. Gaspipe and Bigdog, hats off to yah!
Mark just switched hosting servers for his site - they should all be back up and loading faster than ever.
In fact, over the next few weeks, I'll be swapping all my images to another server, so they might be wonky for a little bit.
If you do a search in ride reports for threads I started, you'll see a bunch more stuff. Have fun, and thanks for taking the time to read this report.
Here, I fixed the photo for ya...
And gents - thanks for posting - I really enjoyed the ride!
Nice job on the image aging. And thanks for blowing the dust off of this old report.
I'm decommissioning the chopperbruce.com server soon - that's where the pics for this ride have been located. I painstakingly have gone through this report, and have updated the image source for the new server. And added quite a few new pics.
It will load much, much faster for y'all on broadband.
Sounds like I'll need to read all 37 pages again. :eek1
Gentlemen, uh, er, well you know...
What an adventure!!!! Thanks for taking us along!
Bruce: Thanks for fixing the links.
Nothing is worse than a bunch of boxes instead of cool photographs.
I just posted this report to a bunch of guys I know.
Well...guess I'll enjoy reading through the whole report again! Thanks Bruce!
Thanks for moving the images over. This is in my top five favorites reports of all time. Gold!
BBZ, teeds, rhyolite, leeo45...... -
When I saw how many folks were still looking at ithis report, I didn't have the heart to disembowel it by pulling my image server.
I transferred the pics to baldy and they should be there for as long as ADVRider lives
And thanks for reading this old tome....
Fresh pictures! I have to read this all over again.
Should be a great weekend then.
Thanks for all the travels and reporting. An inspiration for some of us still corraled in cloth covered cubes.
Great ride and report, only sad too you shuld've turned north to Alaska and then made the journey home.
Thanks for sharing.
So, how about a 250? (NM --> OR)
Fantastic tale and photos. You two are a baaad influence on me.
A 250 would do fine - but there are some long stretches of desert that *could* benefit from the cruise speed and carrying ability of a bigger thumper. A 450 class machine with a six speed would be perhaps the perfect bike for the west, IMHO.
Pretty much any 400-650 class thumper is fantastic for the ride. Bigger bikes, like the 950 ADV, would be a handful in certain sections, but still rideable, all depending on your skill level.
There are some stretches of deep sand, endless miles of deep, rutted sage roads, and some steep and rocky 4wd roads. Plus, if it's been raining, the incredibly sticky, yet also slick mud is alway there in a jiffy.
Long story short, run what you have. If it's a KLR650, KLX650, DR650, XR650L, XR650R, XR400, DR400, KLX450, TE450/510, 450/525 EXC, LC4, etc......it'll do just fine.
Awesome job guys! The pictures and the writing are both EXCELLENT!
I haven't gotten anything done at home or at work since I found this thread!
