So i want a BMW ... i have owned 2 in my life ( k75 and a g450x) . I have a trip planned for summer of 2023 after we get back from a world back pack tour . I love the HP2 Enduro . i think one with bags would be just the dream bike . But sadly im not a rich man . I was thinking about finding a crashed 1100 or 1150 RT or R and building my own . Thoughts? anyone gone done this road?

    Also at the show.
A bud and I rode a Dual Sport ride a few years back in Oregon.
We were on a nasty rocky up hill where you needed momentum, especially on bigger bikes.
We got passed by a HP2.
We both had the same thought when we talked later.
The thought was that person did not own that bike.
Nobody would hammer an expensive bike like that if it was theirs.
Must have been the shop bike.

That's what I did on my old 1150. The main downside was the effort it took to twist dual pumper carbs all day.

Yea, a spring on one cable to lessen the pull.

Turbo with a single carb might work. Luckily progress has been made on the weak trans input shaft splines since I did my bike.

I bet I could get by with only two pistons, two carbs in the dirt. :lol3

A bud use to ride BMW's.
He got cured when his final drive went out on his red and white far from home and had to ride bitch on a KLR luggage rack for too many miles. :D:D

    Me...rode them borrowed...no calling yet.

B3807C38-B886-43A6-A197-BABD21B16FCF.jpeg I consider myself very fortunate to be able to have an HP-2 and still wanted one to tour on one. A bloke in Tucson ( thanks Frank!) stared me off with 58B413E1-98C3-466A-853C-CDAB68C689A5.jpeg this conversion and I’m perfecting it. I acid tested it with a maiden voyage into BAJA while supporting a race team. The trip exposed a few MAJOR shortcomings but I still loved the bikes performance! The quest for perfection continues...

the 1150 has a 6 speed and is high geared with an OD 6th. the 1100 is lower geared and is generally better off road. they do not interchange in any way. I owned both. the final drives can be replaced to get a lower drive if using a 1150 platform. Anton has some stuff on that. one down side to the 1100 is the rear foot peg is bolted to the tranny and if you crash right, it breaks the case
