I'll be traveling to Southern California (Thousand Oaks),then up into Northern California (San Fran) and back to Oklahoma, sometime in September.

Looks as if my GS Adventure will need a 12,000 mile Service and (2nd set!) fresh rubber while I'm in Thousand Oaks.

Any positive recommendations for Service in the area?

I don't know about T.O exactly... but just a little South is West Valley Cycles. It's not a very "uptown" place but they are about as honest and straight shooting as they get.

Try RPM Cycles in Ventura, 30 miles north. Not a dealer but certainly capable of doing your service. It's a small shop with only one wrench so make sure you call a couple weeks in advance for a time and tires.

Certified BMW shops in the area for a 12K service and the like?

    Lets talk cities...

Do I go into Los Angeles?

    Burbank?
    Beverly Hills?
    Santa Barbara?
    Oxnard?

What BMW shops are in the area?

From the BMW website, Dealers in the area...

West Valley Cycle SLS, Winnetka, 14 miles
BMW of Hollywood, Hollywood, 29 miles
BMW of Long Beach, Long Beach, 47 miles
Brown Motor Works, Pomona, 63 miles

Am I missing any other shops to consider?

Any recommendations from the list or others?

    One recommendation for West Valley?

    Thanks, James

West Velley books up early. If you know when you will be in the area... schedule as far in advance as possible.

    Thanks traveltoad,
Yes, the lady on the phone at SLS just laughed at me when I tried to schedule a 12K service over two weeks in advance, she just laughed and laughed...

I like the guys over at Irve Seaver(Orange County).

Ask for Chris in service and he will make sure you are treated very well. Tell him Nick and Christi said hi and it should get you a free cup of coffee!

It might be a little further south than you want to travel but it might be worth it. I overheard some motor Patrol officers from LA saying they couldnt get decent service in LA or LB and were making the trip down to Irv. Its just what i heard.

There is usually a line of CHP bike at West Valley... so I don't know about that. :huh

You could try telling Lori at West Valley that you are an "Adventure Rider". It may help... if nothing else it will give her a good laugh. :lol3

and a BMW of Hollywood on Santa Monica, is this a Honda + shop?

Same owner for both. I think the North Hollywood shop is strictly bikes and Honda of Hollywood on Santa Monica Blvd. has both but their bike shop is separate with lots of bays. I've found they have at least two very good BMW mechanics ... only used them for tune ups and services. So far no unusual or major problems....

I do like West Valley Cycle, but she can be tough to deal with. Ask some CHP motorcycle cops....

I'll be in T.O. the 23rd thru the 26th on business.
I've tentativlely scheduled a 12K service at BMW of N. Hollywood on Tujanga Ave, during that time period. Wish me luck!
