Another one I feel like I have a hundred pics for. This was outside of Silverton, CO on Treasure mountain...somewhere.
Cobalt, Ontario. Silver Capital of the World from 1903 -1925
Located about 90 miles north of North Bay, and about 3 miles off Hwy 11, this old equipment is on display with lots more, just steps north of the train station.
There is also a small museum of the town's mining history on the main street.
The first picture is of cages used to lower miners and equipment, and raise the same along with the ore that was mined. The closest cage has rails on the floor so that a single ore car could be loaded in. The taller cage could have a 'skip' fitted above the cage. The skip could hold two to three times the load of an ore car.
The following picture is of a Ball/Pebble Mill. This one was known as a Hardinge Conical Mill. Steel balls ground the ore being fed through to a size of minus 200 mesh. (200 particles end-to-end measured one inch)
Lastly, a mucking machine, powered by compressed air. The bucket lifted over the car, dumping into an empty car behind.
Folldal copper mines in Norway.
In production from 1748 until 1993. Today an active museum where one can take guided tours in the mines.
Duncan Gold Mine
Its an old mining road, that counts right?
Came across this one in the middle of nowhere in North Wales! The stack was pretty much all that remained, and a cottage down the lane.
