I headed out last Sunday for what was supposed to be a 6 day trip up the BRP then over into Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky to see an abandoned coal facility. It ended up being a 7 day trip when the storms I was hoping to miss rolled through over Sunday night and into Monday.

I stopped at Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campgrounds Sunday night, and after checking the weather decided skip setting up my hammock and just get a cabin. I ended up staying Monday night too, as there were thunderstorms all day right in my path. As always, one of my favorite places to be.

The weather cleared up for a few hours Monday afternoon, so I made a 276/215/151 loop

Tuesday I intended to run up the Parkway to Willville, making a loop around the Little Switzerland area on some nice twisty bits. It was starting to rain by the time I got to Willville and the forecast was for overnight storms , so I pressed on to Buena Vista and found a hotel for the night.

Most of the day, while a bit overcast, was beautiful.

Thursday I headed down to Burkes Garden for the best sandwich around, then over into Kentucky to see an abandoned coal facility, before stopping in Clintwood VA for the night.

I've seen them several times, but the Bison near Paint Bank are always a little surprising.

    Lunch was fantastic.

Nice write up and pictures! I also really enjoy traveling through Burke Gardens VA. The western part of VA is awesome to ride around and just take in the sights. burke G.jpg

Planning a ride in the KY, WV, VA area for this summer. Where is the abandoned coal facility? That's the sort of place we like to stop and explore.
