And/or if customer complains about some malfunction which said update will resolve. I do know that dealers shy away from updating the software for no reason ie. just because customer heard that there's new updated software and wants it...

I prefer not to have any software updates done if I don't have any issues to resolve... :deal

As with many software updates, one thing may get resolved while one or more other things can get screwed up. So, no issues => don't need any updates regardless of who/how gets paid - ymmv... :deal

Is the dealer doing only a 6k mi svc? Or are they also doing an annual? With brake fluid change? Just by age of bike, if fd and brake fluid haven’t been changed, they may have included them in estimate.

The brakes were flushed last year, so they don't need to be done again until 2021.

I just had my 6000 mile / 10000 km done on my 1250gsa at bmw dealer.
Also included a software update and brake fluid change - bike 12 months old.
    $412 au or $292 usd.
I also got a BMW credit for a winter promo service of $150 (winter over here) which bought me some goretex gloves.
So sort of makes a final price of $262 au or $186 usd.

even removing the promo, your quote sound steep.

The bill in the first post includes brake fluid. Indicating that the brake fluid was flushed.
