Not a review in earnest (I'm slaving over a written one for the mag today), but I had the chance to spend the past two and a half months with the F800GS before BMW snapped and demanded it back. Of course winter here on the wet-coast buggered all that up a bit, so I decided to embrace my environment and shot the video anyways:

All in good fun, hope folks enjoy it. Little PSA in the pre-roll for Riders for Health, http://riders.org , I figure while I'm loosing my shirt shooting this stuff I may as well do some good .

Comment and criticisms welcomed, still refining this video stuff.

    Hey OneWheelDrive,

I've got a f650GS twin (i hate the 650 name by the way cuz it's an 800). Watched your review and glad you liked the 800. I live in Vancouver and am planning on putting nobbies on but don't know where to find places to use them.

I noticed you were on a few off road spots in your vid. where are they????

    thanks,
    Mark

    Mark,
Mostly we just headed down any road trunking off the 99, to see where it took us. The "ice road" was just south of the Calihan Lake turn off. There was a bunch of construction, but it loops around and back north towards the x-country ski area. After I road down a hill that was almost all sheet ice we decided to come back out, the camera vehicle (Jeep) was starting to slide about a bit.
I'd love to hear how the F650GS fairs with knobbies! Drop a line. I've ridden the F650GS too, and found the throttle control a gentler and more subtle - good things off road I think. Mind, I'm a bit new to the adventure riding end of things.

I loved the reference to Bill the Cat. One of my favorites...

I love my F800GS. Ride it everyday.

Thanks for the link and the review.

I think you did a great job. Your commentary kept it interesting.
I was trying to not shoot coffee through my nose when you you said "I want knobbies" !! LOL :rofl

I'm trying to be freer with this stuff. We tried being Top Gear for bikes, and that just didn't gell. I'm not that serious, though I love the cinematography. Just having fun with this and seeing how it turns out now.

Hey Neil, just been doing more research and have been pulling my hair out over which tires to get next with the reality of how much street/road I will be doing. The tire that has my interest right now is the Avon Distanzia. Any experience with this tire?? oh, by the way in all reality i'll be 90% road and 10% off road. But with off roading i'm quite an experienced mountain biker with over 15 years of hard core north shore style riding.

    Mark,
I don't have direct experience with the Distanzia I'm afraid, so I can't provide tire advice. :(
    Sorry,

LOL - In the end no. I went out on day two and the temperatures had dropped then started playing about on the ice in the cross-country ski parking lot. Realizing I could ride on it (cautiously) I went back to the chalet grabbed Camera-man Kevin and ruined his day of skiing with some filming.

    Was good fun.
    Cheers,
    Neil

BMW was less that over the top about that bit when I chatted with them this morning - LOL. Still have to call it as you see it.

In this case, isn't "flatulent" a good thing?

LOL - well it does sound like a GS ;) I was oscillating between "flatulent" and "the worlds angriest pepper grinder" for that bit. "Flatulent" one, it was shorter.

Like the vid, Neil. Nice camera and editing work. :thumb

I guess from a pure review standpoint, I'd like to have seen more on the "offroad" capabilities, along with some commentary on how the bike does loaded up with luggage, etc. Of course, this is from the ADV perspective, which I know is not your only audience.
