Is it 3M trim tape? If so, it will stay on.

Yeah, the rubber side can be an issue. I would get some wide 3M tape and maybe either redo it, or have it ready to redo. I use a light rub of acetone on the rubber and alcohol on the aluminum to ensure adhesion.

Thanks for the link. $20 is a lot cheaper than a new shield, so I thought I would try this first.

Is there not space to use the soft straps around each fork leg at the bottom triple clamp? Maybe even pulling to opposit sides to clear the plastics? I

I'm planing on putting this bike on the back of the Sprinter

Thanks, and I have your other thread. I am taking off tomorrow with the Grom on my modified rack. The rack was rated at 400 lbs and used only the center receiver. I raised it up 4" and out 6" and then added two more support bars at the out side of the van hitch structure

I'll be hauling the Grom (150 lbs lighter than the 310GS ) for the next week

I was able to strap over the forks easily with noting touching the plastics...

Tried to figure out what the grab rail on the seat was :hmmmmm- and then I realized that it was the van's spare tire housing.

    Nice positioning.

Sorry that I didn't get a chance to say hi when I was out in Denver.

    Looks great Hondo!

I presume there is no catalytic converter in the system now (which together with the shorter header, undoubtably adds to the overall noise output) - and with this style of pipe you could also now remove the pillion peg hangers if you wanted?

I think this set-up combined with the R&G tail-tidy and the R grab-handles (rather than the GS rack) would look kick-ass!

Looking forward to following your ongoing mods!

Can you remove the grab rail/luggage rack and ride without it? Or is there some small minimalist grab rail that can replace it? Thinking with the tail tidy and without the rack it would look cleaner.

Plenty of "R" owners wanting the GS rack - just sayin'...

They are actually cheaper than that:

    Grab Handles - item #1 & #2 on diagram #46-1848:

    https://shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=58311&rnd=07242017

Plus ideally you'd also fit the plastic trim for between the seat side-panels (not essential, but to keep things looking tidy):

Tail trim panel - item #2 on diagram #46-1866:

    https://shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=58311&rnd=07242017

So little more than $100 - and note the existing hardware can be used to mount them, although you will also need a handful of penny washers to stop the edge of the grab-handles rubbing on the underside of the GS side panels (as they are a slightly different profile to the R panels).

Alternatively, as Micheal suggests - it ought to be pretty easy to find an R owner who might be willing to swap (especially as the rack retails for around $250 in comparison) - that is what I did at my dealer when I bought the bike.

Hope that helps someone, even if Hondo needs to keep his rack for the top-box of course.

@Hondo Didn't like the Remus? Will you let us know how the seat is? Any particular reason selling the bike?
