My idea is that if you clean it with some solvent type stuff you'll probably be better off lubricating it after that. I did mine and I felt good about it I don't think there's ethanol in the fuel we use here.
Leo Vince X3 "Enduro" exhaust news: This pertains to the "Enduro" exhaust which is the type of X3 that fits our X bikes... The X3 is a line of off road exhausts and the Enduro is the one with the 3 bolt style end cap. For awhile there was no US distributor for Leo Vince but now they go through Parts Unlimited, good news (well news to me at least, probably old news...) Earlier I spoke too soon, I had an old BAD phone number for LV and got no answer... but now I called LV -USA and have learned several things: 1) The X3 Enduro exhaust is still actively being made for several bikes (and has the same basic dimensions), so replacement parts should still be around for awhile. The Parts Unlimited # is 1821-1650 and it costs a whopping $529. 2) The spark arrestor is available as part of a "Spark Arrestor Kit Enduro" and is Parts Unlimited p/n 1861-1062 for $56. It comes with 3 inserts and you must buy the whole kit, you cannot get the spark arrestor separately. In Europe I think I found a couple versions of this same kit for sale, calling it the "dB Killer X3", the picture at LV Netherlands shows a 3 bolt pattern - so that insures it will fit. (NOTE: if anybody in Italy has a way to contact SGI (Sito Gruppo Industriale), the spark arrestor itself is "SGI 3928" and that is all we really need - if that is available cheaper I'd buy a few and keep around for everyone...). 3) The carbon fiber-ish muffler clamp (hangar bracket) that attaches the muffler to the bike is clamp style 4A and is Parts Unlimited p/n 1860-0956 for $52. 4) The X3 line of exhausts was made for off-road and uses a PURELY mechanical baffle design such that THERE IS NO PACKING IN IT -- so it NEVER needs repacking !!! I consider this good news!
Wow, great write-up! I wish we could someone still update the front page of this thread, because it is quite outdated. This would be nice to have linked in there.
Thanks SnoDawg. Replied to your pm. Likely a no go for the TT rally this year. Busting my butt this year on a job commitment in hopes of being able to take next summer off. Glad I stuck to your early on advise when I purchased the x back in Feb. I have it very well sorted now and can appreciate it potential.
Please excuse my ignorance but, I should just remove it from the throttle body and spray it out with WD40 or something similar? Then spray with some lubricant when it's dried out?
Take it out and clean it with carb cleaner or brake cleaner or such. Then lubricate it. Clean the throttle body out as well.
Thanks for the heads up on the sale! I just ordered a 460 for my TDM as $500 is just too cheap to pass up. Got front springs as well.
Anyone got a smaller battery suggestion? Jamming mine in with all of the auxiliary wiring for GPS etc is pinching all the wiring, GPS wiring broke yesterday at the battery
Sorry for the constant posting, trying to get things ship shape before my trip. I'm trying to remove the airbox to get at the throttle body and idle actuator. Ive removed the bolts at the handle bars, the hex head bolts at seat end, breather hose, throttle cable, sensor switch, fuse box etc. It seems only to be resisting at the throttle body itself, I'm just not sure how much pressure to apply to removed the air box off the top of the throttle body? I can't see any hose clamps or bolts at the join between the air box and the throttle body itself.
If you can rock it to break the seal, it should come. Like breaking the bead on a tire, it's been there awhile and its happy where the F* it is... A good thing, you know you aren't leaking dust into the motor, I haven't had the X apart yet, but the Dakar has a little lip that has to pop out.
Mine is pretty snug and takes an uncomfortable amount of effort to remove or install. Pretty sure you can reach the actuator without removing the airbox.
I've got a couple questions: anyone had the orange wire that runs out of the ignition switch melt out of the base of the switch? Does it feed the power to the dash ? Does anyone have a fix for too short of footpegs? My natural foot placement seems to only catch the last inch or less of the pegs when i mount
I got the actuator out it is pretty gunky in the housing. Is it ok to spray carb cleaner in the actuator housing if it is still in the bike? I mean will it get into the engine and cause any damage?
I cleaned mine when it was still on the bike. I was carful to not spray a lot at a time and gave it time to dry up between cleaning sessions. Now if you ask a shop, that isn't a good way to do it so take that for what its worth. I don't clame you should follow my example. Your call.
Spray a Q-tip with cleaner and rub the big pieces out first. Agree with Jonny, don't get carried away and you will be fine. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Don't forget to take the hose off that runs from the front right of the engine casing up to the airbox. The hose should be taken off at the engine side and then comes up with the airbox. Be carefull or you might break off the piece of tube on the airbox. Watch where the hose is routed so you can feed it back the way it goes sticking the airbox back on. Once you get the airbox off, put some grease on the rubber seal inside the airbox. That'll make it easier to pop back on and off next time.
So the rubber inside the air box that sits on top of the throttle body stays on? And just pull the air box loose of the throttle body?
The rubber stays on the airbox. Your airbox is pretty dirty inside BTW. Change to (oiled) foam if you still use paper filters.
But be very aware of the oil foam. Check often for softening and deterioration. Mine came apart and was sucked down the intake! More info here- http://advrider.com/index.php?threa...e-your-xcountry.290240/page-543#post-29405898 .
I'm fitting the uni filter and pre filter while I'm doing this. Figured I'd do it all at once, I was going to clean the actuator with it on the bike but looking at how dirty it was I figured better just take the whole lot out and clean it up.
