So it's official, the 2020 GS Trophy is to be held in NZ. Yay.:y0!

First you have to Qualify at National challenges. Australia, China, Female, France, India, Italy, Japan, Latin America, Mexico, Middle East, Nordic, North Africa, Russia, South East Asia, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, UK, USA. Hmmm, I don't seem to see New Zealand on the list yet :ban... Am I missing something? NZ doesn't even get included in Australia. Are we really that insignificant?

I thought that there has been a hosting country team included, but I haven't seen anything mentioned about it yet... I am awaiting replies to emails I have sent to BMW about it so I guess we'll see. Maybe I have missed something.

You probably have to own a 2019 model bike as well, just to be more elitist...:dllama:

From what I understand the Trophy location is just that the location. The teams form the various countries have already been selected from multiple BMW organised rides from around the globe...(read: their biggest markets). Its all strictly amateur riders, no one with a racing licence is allowed to participate. The competitors have had to agree to be free to go to the event and pay for it, which includes their travel, accommodation, all bike costs including hireage, medical, insurances yada yada.....

Loads of publicity for BMW and equally loads of cost for participants....none of whom will be local it appears (although I'm fairly sure there is a Strayin team). BMW might give them a sticker or two. If ya mess up on ya 265kg hired GSA ya might even get ya picture in an online mag. You'll definitely get a bill for any damage to it.

But thats from internet research so its probably all wrong....the good folks at BMW Motorad probably pay for the whole thing :D

Pretty sure the teams haven't been picked yet, as the preliminary trials in the UK are in March...

It would be pretty stink if you can't compete even when it's in your country. I guess I'll find out soon. I know in the past you had to be resident in the countries chosen to compete. Don't know why they haven't included NZ as part of Aussie, they usually do...

It's a nothing event unless we have local intrepid adventure rider and 3 wheeled connoisseurs from Wellybob entered making a special guest appearance. With toolkit.

No NZ'ers allowed at events hosted in NZ - seems to be the way things are trending!

kaint believe BMW Motorad NZ would risk upsetting their die-hard loyal client base, by not scheduling a Kiwi qualifier for an event held in their own back yard, :scratchOne can only imagine the ruckus it'd cause in retirement villages the length and breadth of the country :jack
