2018 XR. Usually ride this beast up in the WNC mountains for endless fun and excitement. I bring a little tent, and the rest to go with it, for a weekend. The 2015 GSA is my go-to touring bike when staying days or weeks on the road. Love them both. Completely different beasts.

I just equip my XR differently for the types of riding I'm doing on it. Touring on it with a Russell Daylong and Givi side cases, looks funky but very functionable. Off road in Colorado put on some 90/10 tires, worked good.
Most of the time Sargent seat low and if I need storage factory side cases. Rarely use the tank bag, it does make good for a hydration system however. DSC_0346.JPG

Used GS/A's are a great idea, however I wouldn't go older than a 2008, better engine and if the servo brakes haven't been converted it is a well known problem, I personally like the 2010 with the DOHC.

As far as exhaust mods go, my recommendation is to forgo the spend for the Akro silencer from BMW and spend the money on either a SS or Ti header, get the sound and it does open up the performance, be aware though, it is loud, especially on start up.

The brakes on the older models is an overblown problem. If you take the time to educate yourself about how they work they are a non-issue. My BMW has never had any problems they couldn't fix with them and the problems which have come into their shop has been because the owner created them. I have a couple of those systems on my older bikes and they work fine. They are an over complicated system for sure. The Adventure models are a little more weigh to be considered. Pricing newer than the oil heads jumps upward too.

'06 is last MY for servo brakes - '07 and up Hexhead bikes are all good brakes-wise to own.

'10 and up Camheads are even better as most refined and last iterations of air/oil-cooled platform...

Removed the valve in Exhaust this weekend. Holy Moly!!

I just removed the butterfly, took 3 hours. So the mechanism is there and all is working, so ECU is happy. At first I disconnected only the cables, but it made the Engine light come in immediately.

So I ordered a XR 26.11.20 and promised production late February.:clap
Already got VIN number, and production date set for beginning of January. I hope they are sober after New year's party before they put it together :D

To let it sound like a proper 1000cc. Not a hairdryer...

And yes, its loud. Like 1000RR track bike loud. Love it.

I feel like my 2016 has one of the better sounding stock exhaust of any bike I’ve owned.

I have an Akropovic on my GS! Ha!

I put an SC project can on my XR. Sounded lovely...not too loud, until you got serious with the go handle.

Hmm, Glomfjord. My hometown. Born and grew up there. Bjarne Eriksens Vei. Small world.
