Probably best not to!
Going to have to make a house payment here pretty soon!
I bought a pair of BMW hand guards when I picked up my bike, after putting on the first side I decided that they just aren't for me. Has anyone else tried some of the other offerings out there?
If you are looking for a BMW set pm me I'll make someone a very good deal on them.
On another note, has anyone with a top box been able to get their (red) color matched top panel? Mine has been on order for months now.
I installed a set of HVMP weights this weekend the fit, finish, and quality of these bar ends are great. Most importantly they did ease the vibes that I had in my bars by a huge margin. I must add that I am in no way personally associated with HVMP, I needed a set of heavier bar ends and these guy's stepped up.
The service I received was second to none and I will be buying a couple more pairs for my other bikes.
It appears they should work with the stock hand guards if you have them mounted up on your bike already.
thanks for the report. I have been looking for a set for my R12R, I have a little buzziness at 6500 rpm that I'd like to tone down a little.
Best get rid of those chicken strips too.....
Has anyone fitted led spotlights to their XR? I'd like the BMW ones, the same as on my GSA, but they're not compatible with the XR wiring system, apparently.
I don't think so
There's an aux light on the dash panel lights, on the left next to abs and ask lights
Nope, thats the main headlight switch, for bikes in the EU with the factory fit LED DRL strip between the headlights.
I emailed Clearwater today and they are 2-3 weeks from delivering a Darla kit for the XR. I believe it will include their Canopener module which allows you to program several switches on the left pod to control the lights. Even the Jog Wheel can be used for dimming them. This is a picture they said would resemble what is to come. Another bonus is they are offering a $75 discount off the $639 price tag for pre-orders.
HVMP Bar Weights -- WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!
I ordered the HVMP Bar Weights on Thursday morning and wowwy wow wow--they arrived today!!! Fantastic Customer Service.
The build quality and finish is excellent and they fit perfect with my OEM Hard-Guards.
Went for a quick 5 mile ride (highway) and--absolutely without a doubt--there is much improvement over stock. I highly recommend them. I love this bike even more today than I did yesterday!!!

I have experience with 4 different windshields mounted on the XR and I have to say the most functional one has to be the CalSci shield. I put it on the bike this weekend and did a couple hundred miles and it performed better then the other 3 units I had on the bike. What I noticed the most was the neutral air around my helmet (S3-Pro) but still plenty of air movement across my midsection to keep me vented. In my opinion they did a great job blending in the windshield to the bike lines making it look like an original fit screen and to function as well as it does is something most windshields fall short on.
What are the 3 others that you have tried? Which CalSci?
The oem shield, power bronze, and the MRA.
It's a Calsci screen made for the XR
CalSci has 4 different sizes, I was wondering which one you have.
With the larger bar-end weights - do the oem handguards bend out more to accomodate them, or is there adjustment available on the inboard mounting point ?
Plenty of flexibility in the hand guards to accommodate longer bar ends.
The OEM Guards simply deflect/bend out to allow the wider weight to fit inside just like the OEM weights. Once installed you cannot even tell.
Frankly, the OEM Handguards are pretty fooking flimsy. Not sure they would survive a nice stout blow from a tree branch, fence post or a car mirror!!
I have the medium shield
