This group is headed for the desert to take advantage of the early Spring temps. in Arizona. This part of the country has been good to us over the past several years, and last October we enjoyed more of the stellar Western US terrain.

The bikes have been sitting at Zen Moto in Cave Creek since October. With the filters cleaned and fluids changed, Mike S. picked up the truck and trailer, then met the riders in Phoenix.

Two brand new KTM 890 Rally R's are in the trailer, and this ride should provide a great shake down for both machines.

Day One started on Sunday, from Florence to Benson. This track rolled south on butter smooth two track and gravel. Of course Mike R. added a challenging side loop, that took the group up and over a boulder strewn jeep trail.

There is evidence of at least one 890 going down...

I've been a Michigander all my life, but there's something about the desert southwest that really hooks me. Looks like paradise!

Kind of the same for me. I have lived and worked in the SE my whole life. So I love when ADVers put up desert RRs.

We got in late to Patagonia from our start in Benson. The Wagon Wheel was a good place to unwind.

    8a.jpg

So we started early from Patagonia and headed North through Sonoita. Where we then caught the AZBDR through the rocky Las Cienegas Conservation area :clap

After a quick refuel, we hit the US Mexican border and then rolled over Montezuma Pass into Bisbee AZ

Plenty of actual Border Agents in rigs all over this county.

The view from the top of Montz. Pass shows the border stretching for 20 miles.

The riding was 4th and 5th gear, with a few slippery corners to keep you honest.

This may be our next SW adventure - buying bikes out there to do the ride and then bringing them home. Enjoying the photos!

Early morning headed SE out of Bisbee to the wall. The Border Patrol was active with a group on the ground. We were encouraged by the local authorities to ride fast and not stop for hitch hikers.

After our Border run we had a quick breakfast in Douglas. From there we rode more of the border for about 20 miles.

    28.jpg

The route then continued NE towards Animas New Mexico, through the Coronado National Forest. It was fast, green and gorgeous.

    29.jpg

    30.jpg

We stopped in Animas NM for a quick shot of gas, and a cold drink. Then we blasted back into AZ. and rode through Portal on our way up and over the Chiracahau Mountains.

    Nice!
We went over Montezuma this past fall.
It was very cold that day.

Going up from Portal AZ into the Chiracahau Mountains , we climbed several thousand feet up from the desert floor into timber country.

Jeff L. really riding the 890 Rally R on this brown dirt track.

There was snow in the higher elevations.

Lots of information in the control center of these 890 Rally R's
