I ignore technology out of laziness, here is a tip take it or leave it, but it made my recent travels in SEAsia so much easier. "Maps.me" is a free app, and it uses less resources (battery power) than google maps. It is easy to use and doesn't need to be connected to the internet, once the location starts working I put my phone into airplane mode and turn on battery saver in my settings. I used this successfully all over Vietnam and Laos recently, and often found my hotels with it since I didn't have a SIM for Laos, since again everything is already available without internet.

    Enjoying the report.

    Day 4 morning:
Had internet troubles yesterday. Probably too many people using it. I am headed out shortly, so hope to continue my posts tonight. My target for tonight is San Ignacio, via San Francisquito and Mission San Gertrudis. Dirt road most of the way. :lol3
Hopefully I will have better internet tonight so I can catch up with the photos and dialog.

    Day 4 night:

Great day! 160+ miles off pavement. Got some video, but still experiencing some "learning curve issues" with the GoPro, and getting stuff from the camera to the computer. I have a 3 day stop in Loreto BCS starting tomorrow night, and hope I can spend time working out those issues. I didn't imagine it would be this much of a challenge for me, well... I am a technology dinosaur. BTW: Can I attach video to this?

I started with my tires still at pavement pressure. The bike was a little squirrely, so I aired down to 25, and things smoothed out a good amount. I would be happy to hear what pressure other people run their tires at when they go off pavement.

I rode, and rode, and rode, and then... Suddenly this spectacular view when I crest a hill. IMG_0096.JPG

After 70+ miles of the dirt road I reached the intersection where I needed to turn... IMG_0101.JPG IMG_0103.JPG

After lunch, as I was traveling on, I caught a glimpse of some rocks piled off the side of the road. I turned around to have a better look and found this...

Out in the middle of no-where. I wonder what it was, or was going to be, or is?

I still have some pics from day 2 and 3 to share... I plan to catch up in the next couple of days. I am finding chronicling my trip a little more difficult than I expected.

In my limited exposure to Mexico, years ago, I found a lot confusing. Half finished buildings just left to rot. Financing falls through, and then it just sits, made little sense to me, but, I was told it was reasonably common.

With my technology troubles, I think I am going to skip (for now at least) the missing days, and just continue from today's report.

    Day 6:
Great ride today. I described it to my wife as "Epic!" It was a short ride in distance, 62 miles one way, but that took 2.5 hours. The last 25 miles takes 1.5 hours alone. 20 miles of it non-paved. Villa Del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto (time share we have just south of Loreto, Baja CA Sur) to Playa San Cosme and AGua Verde.
The real story is how rough the road was. It broke my luggage rack! I understood the Royal Enfield Himalayan stock luggage rack was poorly designed and built, but I thought I was careful to not over weight it. 1.75 gallons of extra gas + a tail bag with spare tubes, spare gloves, a 1 liter bottle of water, and a hoodie. Well saying all that actually looks like it probably was overweight. I am meeting up with a local friend tomorrow, and I hope he has a friend who can help me get it repaired, at least enough to continue my ride. I will also be investigating a better rack, I know Happy Trails has one, and getting it shipped to me during my trip. I would really like to share the video of the road and the broken rack, but haven't learned how to upload video.

The destinations alone were worth the ride, but the ride was as gratifying as they get. Not trying to brag about my riding, but rather to acknowledge to myself that I made it. The reality is I could easily over-estimate my abilities/skills/experience. I'm sure I am not as good as I think I am. Completing the ride was a definite self pleasing accomplishment.
