I'll post up info about trails and roads in central Colorado, just like I did last year. I'll update post #1 as info becomes available.

I took a little ride yesterday to see if there was any dry riding to be had:

The RBT trailhead on Highway 285 was dry. The sign is for the closure of the RBT from Highway 285 east to Methodist Mtn; the trail is now open to motorized use but is snow blocked before the power line crossing.

3.1.jpg Great info. We all are looking to ride those areas . . . spring is coming but not soon enough. I am tired of riding those dirt roads south of Florence and Pueblo. . . ready for the Front Range.

    Cottonwood Pass Overview
    Construction Updates

Cottonwood Pass will remain closed until June 21, 2019. During the rest of the summer, the public can expect up to 30 minute delays due to ongoing construction.
    Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the closure start and end? (This applies Until June 21, 2019)
The road is closed from the Denny Creek Trailhead parking lot (Chaffee County side) to the intersection of CR 209 and CR 742 (Gunnison County side).

Will snowmobiles be allowed on the Pass this winter?
Yes, just like in the 2017-18 winter season, snowmobiles are allowed on the pass. Please see the snowmobile advisory file for important information.

Where can I find the most up-to-date information about the closure?
This website is up-to-date, and is the best source of information in planning your trip.

When will the Pass likely open?
    June 21, 2019

What can I expect when the road is open after June 21, 2019?
Construction will likely be occurring 7-days a week during the summer. There will be flaggers, pilot cars, traffic drums, etc in work zones. Expect delays up to 30 minutes when work is occurring. Please drive safely, our construction workers’ lives depend on it!

When will all of the work be done?
    Late summer 2019

What has been done to date, and what is left to do?
A lot of work has been done, but we still have work left to do. Please view the February 11, 2019 presentation given to the Chaffee County Board of County Commissioners (Acrobat, 11.92 MB) to find out more.

    Scouting the RBT today

Heading up upper Sand Gulch - dry so far.

Schnoo, about 1/2 mile below the exit. It only gets deeper, so turn-around time.

    Heading back down.

Heading west on the RBT at Methodist Mtn Rd.

Hmm, reports of more ahead, so I turn back here. I only have my hand saw today.

    Our fair city.

I suspect another week of warm temps and we'll see very little snow anywhere on the RBT.

Ramz, thanks for the reports. I will stay tuned for updates!
I rode a big dirt loop on the GSA a week or so ago. I start in Breck, ride to Como, to Eleven Mile, ThirtyNine Mile, down 69 to the Royal Gorge. Came back, 9, to 2 to Aspen Ridge and thru 4 Mile then have dinner at Pancho's in BV.
I am looking to explore some more of your trails on the big bike and was using Googlemaps to check out 49 along the Arkansas River to Howard. Then looked at Sand Gulch Rd to 12. Back on 2 and the Aspen Ridge again.
I dig the sand on the big bike, but is Sand Gulch a good ride? Is that loop clear of snow?

I will also bring the 300 down in a few weeks once the RBT opens. Haven't ridden that one yet.
    Thanks!

So you rode Cty Rd 2 west to Aspen Ridge and south out 4 Mile last week?
I would of figured that last snow storm put a damper on that area last week.
Inquiring riders want to know. :nod

The Sand Gulch you're referring to is NOT the Sand Gulch in my previous post. And I think your Sand Gulch leads to a private property subdivision that has no through route to 12. I looked at it 10 years ago, and didn't find a way through. Lastly, I have no idea about snow - that's further down river than I cover in my reports.

Sounds like a must ride paved twisty for 2020 fall colors.

Interesting about the broadband fiber optic redundancy loop added under the road.

Here is one of the worst north facing sections of Aspen Ridge on 5/5:
I did say I was there the last week or so, (took last weekend off to head to Lake Powell).

Rainbow from 285 to silver creek is getting close. I rode from 285 toward silver creek on the e-bike and got about 2 mile from the end before the snow discouraged me.

A couple of summers ago, someone cut the only fibre optic line coming into Gunnison from the west. They were doing road work between here and Montrose, and someone made a boo boo. We not only had no internet, no access to ADVrider (oh the humanity), but EMS, banks, the university, school system, credit card readers, all went down. No one was pleased. The university, first responders, and medical community started pushing hard for a second access for the valley. It is coming about over Cottonwood. We are way too dependent on this stuff, but it's the reality now.

RBT from 285 to west end (Silver Cr) is open. The CCMR boys met Thursday afternoon and there was no stopping them.

    The last snowbank:

They rode over it, then shoveled it clear for the return ride.
