Well here it is ... the week before I leave Australia so I have started the ride report process!

First the proud announcement that I have a new baby waiting for me in LA!

    New baby.jpg

We have a three month window carved out of an other wise full and busy life. to go exploring in the US.

I have only three main destinations (I didn't want to over plan this adventure):

    1. I have a ticket to burring Man and have signed up to work with Black Roc Bakery for any fellow Adv Riders heading that way!
    2. i am a brewer and want to visit the guys a Maine Brewing company who make my favourite beer "Zoe"
    3. As I live in Sydney Australia, I thought it would be cool to get to Sydney Nova Scotia.
Three months and three locations didn't seem to be too stressful. Fly into LA and out of NY!

So I have started to build a pile of things that will help ...

    Shit together.JPG

And have the essential kit in my hands ...

This trip is the second part of what we euphemistically call "Long Service Leave" here in Australia. Although as I am self employed this is just a good way to explain to people why I am taking 4 months off!

The first part has been a trip across the central Australian deserts.

Here a couple of pics of that trip taken with family and not in the bike ...

Me nicely stuck onto of Big Red!

    Big Red.jpg

Lake Caroline ... a really long way from anywhere!

    Lake caroline.jpg

I love the remote central deserts so am looking forwards to exploring the US very much.

More to come on next posting ...

Leave here on 30 July and pick the bike up.

A big shout out to James Tucker who has been so helpful and all the others that helped me get this far (GirlRyder, Matt, Walkingbear and Wes Mantooth).

    Very excited!

    Peter

Oh a bit about me ...

English born, in Sydney since 1991. Achieved a leave pass from home and its time to go!

Married (to Julie aka Mrs Peter640 - a wonderful and generous woman), three kids (mostly grown).

A few questions to help me ...

Any recommendations on best sim card provider for me in the US for the phone and I pad ...

What do you think iPad or MacBook as travelling companion?

The iPhone will be video and camera worked well on last trip ...

Here in the states we dont do sim cards like the rest of the world so for non contract strait talk is the choice in my part of the country . good luck . oh and stay away from all chain restaurants , youll will see a big difference in food around the country . New mexico green chile , compared to chile from the north and east , bbq from areas such a Memphis , texas , eastern NC , western NC , Eastern SC all are very different . you get the idea .have fun

Give me a ring if you are up in my area north of Sacramento (Corning, on the way to Burning Man), we are about 4 hours from the Black Rock Desert and know this area pretty well. I've got good friends in Sydney and Muswellbrook and need to work on my Australian language skills again.

I believe you can get a sim activation kit from Verizon. I travel all over the U.S. for work and fun and they seem to have the best coverage, especially in remote places like southern Utah, Wyoming, Montana,New Mexico, etc.

Looks like fun! I live in Park City Utah. I will be there from July 24th to August 10th if you need a pillow. Have a great time in our super big country.

Hey no BBQ plate but I still seem to have enough here!

Actually feeling pretty pleased with this as all my riding gear is n here as well as camping and even a few dehy meals left over from other trips ...

Adventure starts at 0930 tomorrow morning! Look out LA!!

Hoping to get to Sydney NS as this seems like a cool target! Apologies to all Canadians for my average rendition of the map! I've been checking the Cabot trail out (thanks VTClare and FolkGirl for posting) looks amazing and a high rain potential! Will try to be there by end Sept and hopefully still warmish!

Thanks .. I might have the world's largest dry bag (almost a body bag!). Socks and underpants are for the weak! I am hoping the weather stays nice and warm as I am travelling pretty light for 3 months.

Very excited and looking fwds to the flight.

The force is strong :) tomorrow I dine in LA!:clap

See you on the weekend Peter.
One season 2003 Colleen and I rode to Sydney NS...be carefull....the allure of the Trans Labrador Highway beckons magnetically. That's a fair way north east for us, so we said "why not' and did the TLH.
Saturday or Sunday is great, we leave I think Tuesday.
