And some more ... Good wifi!
God I love this pic ...
I live near Bagdad, Kentucky. About an hour east of Louisville, Kentucky. About 90 minutes southwest of Erlanger, Kentucky. Let me know if you are going to be in the area. It would be nice to meet you, and hear about your adventure. I've been very fortunate to be able to have two long motorcycle adventures two years in a row. I'm near retirement now and hope to ride as long as I'm alive. I'm new to the GS adventure community, but I've owned motorcycles since 1967.
Did I understand that you're working for a bakery at Burning Man? That's so cool! I've read articles about Burning Man that were written by motorcycle journalists. The stories made me want to be there. You'll certainly have plenty to write about from that adventure!
If you park the bike in Erlanger, I assume you may have plans to tour more of the US. Alaska can be very difficult if the weather is wet for very long. But waiting a day or two can drastically improve road conditions. If you're comfortable on gravel and a bit of mud now and again I don't think you'd have much trouble. Amazing scenery to be seen in Canada and Alaska.
Photo of your GS looks like you have Anakee lll tires. One of my riding partners had those on his Suzuki V-Strom 1000 and did very well in all conditions. I had Heidenau K60 Scouts on my GSA, and also no issues.
I have to get new tyres soon, so interested in going one level more aggressive for gravel and (hopefully none..mud!). Will search a BMW dealer north of here as also have some recall work to be done ...
Don't want to loose road handling .. Always a dilemma
Not sure if you're familiar with those holes in the rocks, but if they're small (say, less than 8-12 inches in diameter) they're probably grinding holes used by the native people for centuries.
Ride looks awesome Pete - i am thrilled for you and jealous as hell in equal amounts! Glad you love the bike - there is nothing like it on the open road. How are you going coffee-wise? Stiff upper lip ol' boy...Russ
I've only used Heidenau K60 Scouts on my R1200GSA. I think you'd gain a lot in off road ability but certainly loose some road capability too. The K60 last forever. I've got 12,800+ miles on this set. The front still has pretty good tread. The rear is flattened in the center but has not reached the wear bar indicator yet. Very hard rubber compound. Very stiff sidewalls. Fortunately, I'm not a very aggressive rider as my other bike is a Harley Davidson Electra Glide.
Some of my friends like the Metzler Tourance for a dual sport tire. Sucks in mud, but everything sux in mud! Mud is evil. The Metzler reported to last for about 9,000-10,000 miles for the rear.
Keep us informed of your adventure!
Well I had a cruisy day today. A storm came thru last night when I was at Shaver Lake so I decided to run further up the mountain to a super cool camp site called Mono Springs ... Lucked out and got a camp site and spent the day floating in hot springs or swimming in the river ... Bloody lovely! Nice camp fire last night and a meal at the
And more from Mono Hot Springs...
Heading to Pendleton OR today after weird night in Carlson City.
Then Spokane for new tyres ...
Nice! Mono is Fantastic.
Where are you???!!!
BIG day today ... Did Carson City, NV and now in Kennewick, WA! A three tank ride today with no pics as I didn't stop for anything but fuel and nature.
I aim love with the 385 leading into Pendleton may be the best sealed road I have ever ridden!
672 miles I think!
Staying with John I who has helped me out via Tent Space and been a very kind host. The U.S. won the pool championship!
Great to have a bed as last night was weird with some young woman (of the night?) knocking my door at 3am asking for Tim! Only the to have her taxi driver knock my door at 5am clearly to take her home again. I hope she found her man! Needless to say I feel pretty tired after being woken up and ni, I didn't say my name was Tim, nor did I ask her in!
Weird stuff happens in Nevada!
My other neighbour was hard core Harley man called shorty a really nice guy ...pic above
I am in! Keep it coming.. Kind of a personal connection... My daughter is in Sydney working.
Nice what does she do?
