Back in February, C-Stain, Big Sexy and myself planted the seeds for a trip over to the Rock for a T'railway crossing on smallish bikes. Sexy has a KLR, Stain has a Super Sherpa, and I was in the process of building up a KTM 525. The planning was going great till Sexy discovered he couldn't make the trip, so we are down to two riders on small bikes

Our planned dates are : catch the North Sydney- Port Aux Basque ferry on the 16th of July, and return on the Argentia-North Sydney ferry on the 30th of July. Much GPS routing was done for the ride, then more bad news! The T'railway has a stretch of over 100km closed due to spring flooding washing out large sections of trail. The decision was made to take the big bikes and make the trip anyway, putting in as much time as possible on back roads. We will be taking my 2012 S-10, and Craig taking his 990 Adventure. I don't have a pic of Stain's bike, but here is what I'm taking.

The Tenere doesn't need much prep, hard bags are off, giant loop on, don't like hard bags on the woods roads. A new, more aggressive rear sneaker was needed, so a Mitas E-10 was ordered help shed the goose shit slick Newfoundland mud on the off chance it rains!

Apparently we have been tasked to deliver a fallen inmates ashes to L'anse aux Meadow during our trip. The northern peninsula wasn't in the plans, but who could refuse to honour such a request.

Some sections are more conducive to big bikes than others! You guys are going to have a blast, no matter where you go. If you do the run up the western peninsula, you should try to do the 20 or so kms into see the Lomond Sink Hole. It's just south of the Park, on a good gravel road. One of many cool geologic features on the Rock.

Do those alders impose a magnetic force on big KTMs?

Dougger, Geoff and I rode though I don't know how many km's of them bent over the old rail line up to Boavista. It was a bit painful.
