Made it to Cerro Gordo. Didn’t go on the tour this time because Wafer wants to see it too:

    Heading down the maintained road:

Near the bottom of the hill there was a steep 2-track to the northeast, had to check that out too. It led to a couple of open mines:

I went in all of 20ft. I’ve read too much about vertical mineshafts and poisonous gases to go any further:

I have no idea what this is:

Nearby there was a terminus for a different tram system, I need to figure out where this one originated at:

At the very bottom of the hill close to the 136 is some sort of smelter (I think). Location is 36.491798, -117.863038 if you want to check it out-- there are clearly tram cables and towers heading here directly from Cerro Gordo Mine.

Edit: it’s a silver smelter according to this writeup from 2014: https://strayngerranger.com/eastern-sierra-surprise/

From there I cruised back into town, loaded the bike into the van, cranked up the AC, and headed home.

It was a good 3 days of riding- going back and catching the sections that I missed previously was definitely worth the extra trip.
Burro driver, Cabrito, gammel and 4 others like this.
