    I got it off the site Idragaknee linked on Post # 210.

    I only dream about one day building/owning bikes like these. It's largely a space issue because older "donor" bikes can be picked up quite cheaply and I believe the fun factor need not be $$$-dependent.

    It is a beautifull bike, but that red engine looks like a picture of some malignant growth taken with an endoscope.

    It has torque cones and small baffles inside the pipes. It still makes some good noise.
    Donor bikes WERE cheap a couple of years ago. Now a good gas tank costs what I was buying complete bikes for, at least by Fleabay prices.

    Check out the black SV650 under the link of Japanese bikes and the Buell(www.2wheelconnection.com). I liked building and riding these a lot. The SV survived Katrina. The guy I sold it to loaded his computer and the SV right before the big one and headed out.

    You've got some seriously good looking bikes there. !!

    The cafe racers are brilliant, but somehow the bobbers have a certain look that I find intrigueing.

    These bikes are ones I have built for others and I agree with you. I ride a DR650.
    What I was directing the guys to were the ones on the site that were modified street bikes that were MUCH improved like the Buell and the SV650.
    The only bike I have in the garage that I would even call a cafe racer is a 64 Norton slimline featherbed frame with a 750 Triumph engine, dual 4LS front brakes, Ceriani front end, alloy 18" wheels, hand formed alloy tank for oil and gas.......
    I think I know what a real Cafe Racer is.

    I'm with you on the bobber chopper thing. Cool to look at, but not me either as far as really riding somewhere.
    I'll take the dirt roads with no posers any day, but that said....ALL bikes are cool, but maybe not right for this thread.

    This was not an attempted hijack. If you look closely you eventualy notice a seriously trick cafe racer. !

    I tried to Google decent pictures of it without success. If anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated.

    not climbing into the ring, but....
    IMO a tastefuly done bobber turns me on as well as traditional CAFE. Yes, there is a huge difference between the two, but bobbers by design are predescessors (sp?) to cafe. Based on the same idea of removing everything possible that will improve performance by reducing weight. Simplicity and fuction of '40-'50 era. Cafe bikes of early 60s and on were just a slightly more evolved bobbers with better suspenssion and brakes.
    Loooooong stretched and raked choppers are a different story....specialy the $50K built to order ones. $50K will make any dentist a bad ass!

    I wasn't going to touch this either but you are 100% correct about the origins of bobbers (as opposed to modern streched "choppers") and their relation to their "further advanced" cousins the Cafe Racers. I don't like streched "choppers" but a correct period bobber is a thing of beauty IMHO... 2 cents... Peace...


    Example... Not far from this Bobber to a CR.. Kind of blurs the line somewhat.

    I think all of you guys are correct to a point. The stretched billet barges are in a class of their own(whatever that is). I think the new "cafe" racers are the street fighter bikes just like the tuner cars are the muscle cars of the 60's. I'll take a Hemi Cuda over a Nizmo Gizmo any day though.

    That is why I thought my old Buell from 1998 was kinda a cafe clone and so was the SV 650. Things evolve.

    Remove a bunch of junk, replace with lighter faster.......
    Doing the same thing as in the 60's just different platforms maybe?

    My view is that the platforms have evolved since then to such an extent that there isn't that much more that realistically needs to be done from a functional or performance point of view. A mono shock conversion on the old bikes was a big deal back then, or stiffening the frame or swing arm. All that stuff is now standard, leaving largely cosmetics or very trick expensive parts like after market shocks which the normal rider can hardly do justice to.
    The name of the game is still customising your bike to reflect your taste and preferences. That said, I simply cannot understand why one would reduce the dynamic ability of a bike by fitting long forks or insanely wide tyres to it.

    Basically my 2 cents worth, I definitely do not have your credentials or experience.
