Eamonn spending a few weeks in Canada ....quid pro quo for taking care of my KLR. Lovely time of year and he's got a new ride 2010 Vstrom 650 with only 15k km on it. Free helmet and some new gear from another rider.

Pennsylvania roads - we would start in Coudersport and perhaps stay there

this is ranked #1 but mainly for scenery …144 is superior for riding

    Hi inmates

I will be visiting Carins and surrounds 2-13 September. Business trip with a bit of travel.
I will be traveling inland to the farming areas of Tully, Dimbulah and Mareeba, maybe a bit south.

I will need to rent a car or bike.
Anybody in the area that might want to meet up for a beer let me know.

    Thank you

After you visit Carins you might want to check out Cairns (sorry couldn't resist). I used to live there for many years but am now 4 hrs further south. Some great trails and tracks in the area. I would recommend hiring an adventure bike or even a roadie and check out the Atherton Tablelands and surrounding areas and ranges. Sensational roads tailor-made for bikes. You have to do the Palmerston and Gillies Highways.

Will get back to you as the company I work for part time as a riding instructor, Stay Upright Rider Training, has just invested in a fleet of KTMs. 2 x 500EXE F, 2 x 690's and 2 x 790 adventure R's. The plan is to run guided adventure tours of FNQ from next year excluding Cape York tip as everyone's doing that and we want to do something a little different and show off North Queensland itself in style. We are open to the possibility of dry hiring the bike too but have to look further in to demand, pricing and insurances etc. What sort of budget were you looking at per day and how many days would you like to hire for ? PM sent.

Here's the fleet pictured with Warwick Shuberg - founder of Stay Upright.

I have a couple of days not sure if I will be "busy with work" or free so will definately visit some of these areas if time allows. I am visiting friends in Dimbulah area on a farm for a weekend.

Anyone know where I might be able to buy some thinnish or medium wall thickness tubing about 19mm O.D. (+/- 0.5mm) in Cairns? Have some gear to bend tubing but can't find a supplier, want to build some luggage racks.

While I cant point you exactly try any of the Hydraulics workshops like Enzed for hydraulic tubing. I've made a few racks over the years using 15mm tube. Worked well. Would suggest that 19mm might be a bit of overkill & may be hard to achieve bend radius without the tube kinking. Weather is still catctus down here, after 3 weeks up there Might even come up & bend them:D.

I used to get my chromoly tubing from Rolph at Aeroglen aviation, he has the tig filler rods as well, I use it to repair my frames but I think it's the best for luggage too as I keep breaking my thin walled normal steel ones.

Do yourself a favour and just buy some premade hoops from barrett. They will also sell you some extra tube to make the supports. You will end up with a way more professional looking set of racks and still cheap!

It's not loops I want though, I want to make a rear rack. Just knocked up a quick one in 20mm box section but it would look a lot better with some curves in it to follow the contours of the bike, much easier to do in round tube than square box. I'm doing it at work as "professional development". I'm an industrial tech school teacher and I like to spend an hour or two mucking around some afternoons to keep my hand in.

i have been using disposable ear plugs on my longer rides but I think they are irritating my ears now, driving me nuts almost at the moment.
I asked Kezza this morning but he didnt know of anybody local.

Does anybody know if there is anyone in the local area making the custom ear plugs, the type where put the liquid in your ear for a few mins and it sets to your shape?

    thanks

Anybody in our group do any codeing / programming using Python code?
I have just started and feel like I am lacking some basics, when I see examples, my screen layout does not look the same as the example.
Also, when I put some code in from the examples, it doesnt work.

Wondering if I could get a couple of hours with somebody to help me with my set up

    Thanks

    Gday Guys and Girls.
Just moved to Cairns. I have heaps of ideas for mutli-day and far north jaunts but i need some inspiration for day and half-day rides out of cairns city..... More dirt singletrack the better but blacktop twisties to get there are good too.
Hoping someone here can point me in the right direction or even come along for a burn.

Take a run up the Kuranda Range road, turn right after you reach the top onto Black Mountain road. Follow it right through to the other end near Julatten, turn right again and enjoy the run down the Rex Range. Turn right at the bottom and ride the coast road back to Cairns. Bit of everything, 'twisties', rainforest, coastal lookouts and great scenery.

At the top of the gillies turn right, I think it's named Boar Pocket Rd on that end but eventually becomes Danbulla Forest Rd heading to the town of Tinaroo. Nice ride through rainforest with little traffic on the gillies end but becomes a boring gravel road with too much traffic on the Tinaroo end. Definitely check out Mount Edith Road and Kauri Creek Road which head through the mountains into Mareeba.

Best do it soon - Kauri Creek/Mt Edith roads might be closed once the rain starts and you'll have to wait for next year.
