Even if the tracks are gone, it's still private property.
technically you could get in trouble anywhere on old rail beds unless it's been officially designated
as public use. Just a heads up.

The gap road was closed so we routed south of the park towards Mystery Rocks.

Is your family farm in the range land between Kyle and Lucky Lake? Beautiful area. We rode it both directions!

I'm not surprised. Maybe by July it will be dry enough to cross. I may do just that. There are no camp spots on the Alberta side into September at any of the Elkwater sites so wild camping it is.

Wow! Even the unserviced spots are full? They’re usually empty.

Was in the Ghost River area again today but this time on the ATV trails etc and it was my first opportunity to do some technical trail riding on the 501 . I did some relatively steep hill climbing and descending on loose rocks with sandy spots. Did a 1.5 foot deep mud water crossing. - the TKC 80 ‘s was pushed to their limits with mud just caked on solid - no traction at all. Fun stopped when I realized I lost my number plate and I had to back track in an attempt to find it - to no avail. All I have left of the plate is the metal still clamped under the screws and washers. - lol. All in all I’m very impressed with how well the 501 can tractor up a hill on loose stuff and how controllable it is going down on the same. I don’t think I would have been able to take my GSA where I was on the 501 without serious drama. IMG_0076.jpg

They are only allowing every second spot to be booked. Silly in my opinion as they are 50 feet apart or more. Tents not allowed either since washrooms closed. I went on the reservation site the morning it opened and after an hour nothing available all summer.

Not a big deal, I'll save money and likely find a spot nicer and without neighbors out in the boonies.

Ah yes - nothing like the slime of the Gap Rd in the spring!
Here we are at the entrance to it back in 2011. I recall we turned back after only 1/4 mile or so. Good times!

Yes, that was what I was thinking of. Some went down into the water hole and some saw the carnage from above on the hill top and made a quick retreat. I see my hair was doing the same (retreating) but so much darker back then. Good times indeed!

Yes, I'm from Kyle so to say. Family farm is about 12km north and 2km east of Kyle, just north of Clearwater Lake (we have a cabin there too that we spend a decent amount of time at each summer). What was the Monet PFRA was just north of us. The range land you refer to is east of us on the way to Lucky Lake.

My mom's family is from White Bear, which is on the west side of Kyle. The grid road that heads west towards White Bear is railway street, and that is the road they were working on when they found "Wolly". I'm sure you saw Wolly when you went through Kyle?

It might be a year to do the TCAT east again...

Oh, that’s the Gap Rd?! Yes that was clear.
The road between Reesor Lake and hwy 271 was closed though so we backtracked, routed south and connected to the Gap Rd.

Folks, Here’s a short video from our trip.
Wales did a pretty good job of it I think.
Anyone who’s followed ItchyBoots’ travels on YouTube should get a kick out of the prelude - although we still can’t mimic her seemingly total joy, regardless of the circumstances. lol
    Cheers!

Sometimes it is good to have a voice of reason along for the ride.

Then again, maybe those could become the Alberta version of the Vitim River bridge. Be sure to share the video.

It won't be me. My curiosity has limits and I won't knowingly go on private property. I'm sure someone will oblige you.

That doesn't look like The Gap road I know of east of Elkwater. Actually called Graburn Gap road in the Cypress Hills.
